The fairly obvious has now become official. Redwood Restaurant & Bar, closed since the beginning of January, will not be reopening at Bethesda Row. Their space will be divided into three new storefronts, of 1264, 1430 and 4937 SF, respectively, and are now available for lease.
The largest one is the only of the spaces that could fit a sit-down restaurant; the other two could serve as take-out fast casual or retail spaces. Property owner Federal Realty has previously stated they will favor retail over dining in the short term at the development, but ultimately the market will decide what goes in here.

As many had begun to surmise, the so-called "pipe burst" work going on inside the space over the last few months was actually getting it ready for subdivision and leasing to three new tenants. Rumors of Redwood's exit had been forwarded to me by three different sources beginning last September, but the restaurant did not comment when asked about the reports.
Too bad that wonderful outdoor space will be empty all spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteFinally, the rest of the story and closure!
ReplyDeleteSigh. Robert's game of post and delete. We seem to play it often.

Yes... the person who created, manages, and provides all the content on his blog can also manage the postings of anonymous trolls who have no affiliation with him or his content. Perish the thought!
DeleteHmmm...Strike one. I'm not anonymous
ReplyDeleteStrike two. One doesn't need "affiliation with him or his content" to comment on a public blog.
Strike three. You are an anonymous troll. Does he manage you?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that a restaurant that charges $30 for a burger won't reopen.
ReplyDeleteWhen is your next public campaign event?
ReplyDelete6:40 AM For the sake of everyone else who is here for Dyer's reporting, please go away. Start your own blog...plenty of others have. Maybe Redwood will sponsor you?
