South Street Steaks is closed due to an "accident," according to a sign in the window. The restaurant has been closed since June 25 at 7:22 PM, according to a condemnation sign posted by the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services, which has declared the building "UNSAFE" for occupancy.
Strangely, in 2011, the cheesesteak restaurant was also condemned, after it was struck by a vehicle. Even more strangely, the restaurant is not saying anything about the "accident" that caused the closure - or even that they are closed - on any of their social media accounts or website.

That sucks. Not their fault that some idiot driver smashes into their place. It's a good place to go for late-night eats.

ReplyDeleteYelp is the biggest joke in the review business. I've been to the great Halls of cheese steaks in Philly. I've also been to South Street Bethesda. So you know what? Yelp is wrong. Again.
DeleteTheir cheese steaks are fine. Not as good as what you'll get in Philly, but they also are open until 3am on weekends and at least 10pm on weeknights. Few take-out places in Bethesda are open so late, and they're on UberEats too.

ReplyDelete9:25 - that has nothing to do with the reviews. They are often wrong. What's more, people are paid to give places higher ratings that don't deserve them. To each his own. The food is garbage but I agree that the owners get credit for working as hard and and as late.
ReplyDeleteThey have good reviews on Google also, some negative mixed in. It certainly is more positive than negative, not universally condemned like Soup Up or something like that.
DeleteLook, if you want something to eat at noon on a weekday, you have a whole bunch of choices, and this isn't #1. But if you want to eat at 1am on Friday night, this is one of the few choices out there. That's their selling point.
ReplyDeleterestaurants are known to have all of their employees and friends write glowing reviews for them on Yelp and Google reviews.Those reviews should not be trusted.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Exactly what I said and that's 100% true. No one from Delaware and certainly greater Philly would ever eat that crap. Drunk people will eat anything at 2am but that doesn't mean it's good.
