Patisserie Manuel, Bliss in a Bottle open at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Patisserie Manuel has opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall. The French bakery also specializes in Chilean pastries, and serves breakfast, lunch, and coffee in addition to baked goods. Look for it in the Dining Terrace. Here's a look at the menu:

Bliss in a Bottle kiosk
Also celebrating a grand opening is the Bliss in a Bottle kiosk. Their unique product is chocolate-covered wine bottles, where the wine inside the bottle has been paired with the chocolate on the outside in most cases. Find them on Level 1.

Speaking of kiosks, there is another new one making a debut for the holidays at the mall. This cart sells socks for your favorite pro sports teams.

Ahh, nothing says Paris like a nice beef empanada. No, wait...

The inclusion of these ticky-tacky kiosks in the mall really degrades the experience. I know these are probably a nice revenue steam for the landlord, but they clutter up the mall with nasty looking carts full of junk phone cases and now tacky socks and wine bottles dipped in fudge. A first class mall would not allow these to exist, or at least corral them to one section of the mall, and call it the bazaar. Westfield really does a poor job of curating the tenants to create a quality experience.

Even empty storefronts are not artfully clad with temporary decals, and often just left as vacated storefronts. A classy landlord would devise some nice temporary closures that don’t detract from neighboring retailers. LA good example is how well Federal Realty creates nice looking, well designed graphics on temporary storefronts during vacancies.

I got one of those bliss in a bottle things as a gift last year. It still sits on our shelf. I mean how often do you say "Hey honey, let me spend 10 minutes peeling chocolate off a wine bottle so we can drink wine and eat random shards of chocolate I've scraped off the side of a bottle."?

6:45 AM I'm surprised there aren't any pop-up shops filling those empty storefronts for the holiday season.

The sock kiosk doesn't stock carry any Washington teams? I understand that the Redskins are at a low point in popularity, but c'mon, both the Nationals and the Caps - as well as the Mystics - have won championships in the past two years.
