CHIKO applies for liquor license for future Bethesda Row location
Signs of progress at the future CHIKO at 7280 Woodmont Avenue at Bethesda Row include the owners applying for a liquor license from Montgomery County. The Chinese-Korean restaurant's hearing has been scheduled for December 17, 2020 at 1:00 PM.
The late chef Anthony Bourdain said that this is always a mistake. Pick one cuisine and put that on your sign or your promotional materials. This confuses the public and will cause them to eat elsewhere. There are Chinese restaurants and Korean restaurants. Trying to do both is a big no-no.
Hopefully CHIKO does well. Prima did so poorly in that space. Prima was virtually empty every time I walked by it. Nobody seemed to eat there! The food must have been sitting there all day in those steam trays. They had to be throwing out tons of food each day. I predict a similar fate for The Riggsby (which like Prima, is also a venture by Michael Schlow). It's a shame what happened to Kapnos.
This isn’t the first location. They’ve had success doing what they do. I don’t see an issue with mixing cuisines. We have all sorts of names for restaurants that do multiple things. Fusion places do a mix. There are Asian inspired restaurants that focus on western food. Many Latin restaurants mix and match. It’s not a big deal. If you serve good food, people will come. For those getting “confused”.... well, they’ve got bigger problems.

ReplyDelete@8:11 you obviously need to stick to your toasted white bread and milk, leave the real dining to the rest of us.
