White Flint construction update: Harwood Flats apartments (Photos)

Here's a look at the latest progress on the Harwood Flats apartments at 5454 Nicholson Lane, in the White Flint area of North Bethesda (sorry, WMATA). Despite its proximity to Metro, the project is a stack-and-pack design like the Maizon Bethesda, more horizontally than vertically-oriented in its massing. The facade was Tyvek City in my last update. Now you can see more of the finished facade treatments, and the roofline features, loading dock, lobby entrance and parking garage access are more clearly delineated.

The Foulger-Pratt development will hold 335 residential units. While there was originally stated to be 4500 square feet of retail space in the development, a sign at the site advertises up to 5000 SF as available for retail/restaurant leasing. A second phase of the development will add 232 more units to the site in the future. Delivery of Harwood Flats is anticipated for Q2 2022. Pre-leasing is now scheduled to begin in May 2022.

I like who you refer to the area as White Flint. It was and always will be such. Silly and expensive for METRO to change the name of the stop there. What in the world could be wrong with that name? Wait, the word white is in the name. In that case, never mind. What a joke.

Strange all the work that went into place making and new names and we ended up with someone saying "screw it, just call it north Bethesda"..lol. I don't recall residents weighing in wanting that name. Helps with real estate values I guess, but Rockville is pretty expensive now.

They are changing the name because the Mall no longer exists. I don't think it has anything to do with "White" being in the name. The area more and more is becoming known as North Bethesda anyways. The county population appears split on the issue but County Government is strongly recommending the name change.

No one cares that White Flint has "white" in the name. It's simply a marketing name for the area that's out of date and meaningless ever since White Flint Mall (and previously White Flint Country Club) no longer exists. I'm glad North Bethesda - the actual name of the neighborhood, according to the last six federal censuses - was selected for the metro stop name rather than replacing one marketing name - White Flint - with another, e.g. Pike District.

Unfortunately the building has mice in the dwelling units and the management in the leasing office has been unresponsive. They have turned off their Google reviews or they are flagging them, even on apartments.com. I have sent numerous e-mails to Kelly Montes and opened maintenance requests that have gone unanswered. I have to reply to this blog, hoping a potential renter sees this when they google Hardwood Flats, being that they delete social media comments and flag reviews as inappropriate, I assume, to prevent a potential renter from seeing the reviews on Google.
