    Of course there was.

Montgomery Mall is not safe anymore. If you aren't carrying pepper spray and a high-intensity compact flashlight at the very least, you need to ask yourself why.

I always park in the garage above the food court and on the level right below the theater because it's easy to get to the food court where I am mostly headed. For the most part, that's a safe bet because there aren't many people and the sight lines in the garage itself are good. Having said that, I now make absolutely certain that I am aware of everything and scan and rescan the scene before making my way to the stairs and doors leading to the escalator down. Situational awareness is really key. Is is dangerous all the time? No, but the police reports, etc don't lie. There is an increase in crime which I love the Wash Post said Fox News Channel and others are making it up. People are obviously not that dumb.

Do you have a link to where the Washington post said Fox News is making up an increase in crime?

We need more Bernard Goetz's and Charles Bronson real life movie characters to clean this MoCo mess up and at least put the element of fear back into the perp thugs.

Criminals are prowling and targeting this Mall for easy marks: People with packages and children.

Elrich obviously doesn't care about it.

Where are the police? They established a base of operations off the food court several months ago. Ironically, crime seems to be the same or up on the mall property since then.

@3:32 PM Why don't you make a feel good moment and give him the Melania jacket for the holidays? I'm sure you'll get a rise out of that.

@2:25 PM: No, what we need are more MoCo police officers on the street, which means substantially increasing the size of the MoCo police department. If the police aren't there, it will fall upon people who legally carry to protect themselves subject to the requirements of MD Self-Defense Law: which includes a duty to retreat if it can be done safely.

@8:13 PM: Yup. It's a real shame what's happened to MoCo. It's been one party rule here for years so it's quite preposterous of leftists to believe anyone else but them is to blame for what it's become.

@7:15 AM: There aren't enough police on the force. That's why you don't see them. Montgomery County's police department is significantly undersized for the population of the county, and that's been on record for a long time. The County Council deliberately ignores the annual police report's findings on this and refuses to authorize increasing the size of the department.

  10. The left can't elected without the center nor can the right. You ruin your blame game when you pretend otherwise. It's fair to say that the left and center rule MOCO. Wonder why the college educated wealthy middle class around here seem so more forgiving and understanding?

Something to do with "(t)ravel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime."

Of course, Twain called Jim a N-word, so where does that leave us?

@12:58 PM: So you're blaming the "center" as the reason for why the "left" gets elected repeatedly and overwhelmingly to run MoCo as a one party County?

These "forgiving and understanding" people as you called them still gave their vote to Elrich in the Primary even after their cars were stolen. You'd figure having your car stolen (or having a friend's or family member's car stolen) would be enough to change someone's mind about voting for Marc Elrich again, but I guess it's an acceptable cost of being woke to have your car stolen and still vote for Elrich. That doesn't make these people "center" at all. These people are "left".

If you recall, Elrich won the primary by 32 votes against David Blair who ran on a strong pro-safety/equity platform:

in 2019, there were 914 Motor Vehicle Thefts.
In 2020, there were 1,178 Motor Vehicle Thefts.
In 2021, there were 1,444 Motor Vehicle Thefts.
For 2022: "As of June 6, there have been 511 auto thefts in the county this year, according to police spokesperson Carlos Cortes-Vazquez." (https://bethesdamagazine.com/2022/06/10/county-police-launch-program-to-help-decrease-auto-thefts/)

I can guarantee you that at least 32 Marc Elrich voters had their cars stolen over the last few years, and still voted for the guy over David Blair:

    Blair's Platform:
    - "Public safety is job one for the county executive. We need to adequately fund the police department, urgently respond to increasing crime wherever and whenever it arises, and vastly improve education, anti-poverty, youth services and equal justice."

    - "We must ensure that police treat all residents with respect. Safety and equity must go hand in hand."

Blair's public safety message wasn't appealing to the "forgiving and understanding center" crowd you mentioned. That puts them on the left, not the center.

Blair got the Police endorsement on the Dem side, and Riordan Sullivan got it on the R side. I’m voting for one R only - and that’s Sully - because it’s not safe around here anymore.
