Thanksgiving burglars are believed to have used this adjacent retail wing roof to gain access to a second-floor condo unit |
The burglars who broke into a condo at Fairmont Plaza in downtown Bethesda on Thanksgiving used the roof of the property's retail wing to access the second-floor unit, according to a memo distributed to the building's residents last night. After scaling the one-story structure, the burglars removed a bedroom window to gain entry to the condo, and then fled with valuables.
Incredibly, the burglars were able to do all of this during the Thankgiving dinner hour without being noticed by passersby on the two streets below. Building management has made security camera footage available to the police, who are investigating the break-in.
That's creepy as hell. Hope the police catch these criminals.
ReplyDeleteImagine seeing crime in Detroit Chicago and now NYC because of democrat policies and going to polls on Nov 8; and choosing democrats over COX
ReplyDeleteThe insanity of those who don’t believe democrats are destroying every city with crime
I think 12:00 will agree with me: we must demand police be posted on every rooftop in Bethesda.
ReplyDeleteGive over. Your threadbare, shop-worn refrain has --once again-- been thoroughly, resoundingly repudiated by the electorate.
@7:50 PM: You're engaging in "reductio ad absurdum". It's the logical fallacy of extending 12:00 PM's argument to ridiculous proportions and then criticizing the result. You're getting the crime you voted for. Congratulations and own it.
ReplyDelete@8:01, You are engaging in:
ReplyDelete(A) Utter failure --or is it simply intellectual inability?-- to recognize sarcasm
(B) Mansplaining.
Not all who wander are lost, Jefe.
"The world is a dangerous place to live; not because people are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it"
ReplyDeleteAlbert Einstein
7:50/1:51 define the latter
Oh dear. @3:13 seems to have suffered a Stage-IV case of self-own. Allow me this extended quote, please, from The Ultimate Quotable Eisnstein, edited by Alice Calaprice.
ReplyDelete"On Pablo Casals (1876–1973) What I admire in him particularly is his steadfast demeanor not only against the oppressors of his people, but against all those opportunists who are always ready to make a pact with the devil. He has clearly recognized that the world is more threatened by those who tolerate evil or support it than the evildoers themselves. Written March 30, 1953. Einstein admired the Spanish cellist not only for his music, but for his humanism and staunch opposition to the fascist Franco regime in Spain."
The evil to which Einstein referred was Spanish ruler Francisco Franco's autocratic dictatorship and those who would appease the strongman. Here in 2022 Montgomery County, the people have done something about the "it" you asked be defined for you: we voted to reject nakedly authoritarian, fascistic-curious policies you apparently find alluring.
Bye now. I'm busy with Christmas shopping and haven't lots of time to help you wipe all that egg off your face. Maybe Santa will leave a copy of The Big Book of Politics under your tree.
@1:51 PM: Just take the L here. This is sad, and as you added at 6:28 AM: Nothing says "I'm not a fascist authoritarian" like MoCo's One-Party Democrat Leadership attempted "gun grab" which is blatantly unconstitutional per Bruen. Of course you'd support the council members who voted for it anyway because the ends justify the means for you. People like you always do and you feel a virtue high from it. No matter. It'll get thrown out, and I'll make an extra effort to open carry just for you. Also, make sure you put a woke sticker on your car while you're shopping. It may prevent your car from being stolen in MoCo.
ReplyDelete“Take the ‘L’”?
ReplyDeleteTo refresh your [conveniently lapsing] memory:
• My team won the election. Again.
• Your team lost. Again.
• You don’t understand sarcasm (@8:01)
• You prove yourself no Einstein when you heroically misapply an Einstein quote (@3:13)
You have barreled headlong into every hurdle in this thread. Why on earth would I “Take the L,” denying you the distinction you have fought so valiantly to claim as your own?
Enjoy your open-carry savior-daddy fantasies.
It's hard for people like 6:28 as it just proves that money can't buy common sense.
ReplyDeleteWhile your search skills are adequate, supporting a cabal like Elrich/MC Council shows a blind faith stronger than any cult in that policies that consistently demonstrate failure will eventually work. Hope springs eternal...
@7:19 PM: That's not me quoting Einstein. That's another commenter, not that you care. You're just not getting it. It doesn't interest me that "your team" won. What interests me is that "your team" own, and what I'm hearing from you is a lot of projection and snark instead of actual ownership.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud that I can disagree with and disown myself from everything that the One Party Democrat Leadership has done to ruin Montgomery County. You as a supporter of "your team" - the One-Party Democrat Leadership here - completely own the rampant violent crime because there aren't enough hired police. You completely own the stolen car problem here because your team disbanded the MoCo PD Auto Theft unit by defunding it. You completely own the illegal immigration problem here because you made MoCo a sanctuary county. You completely own the overcrowded public schools here because you're spending the money instead on worthless programs which don't amount to anything and you don't care that they don't. You completely own the poor roads here because of inefficient maintenance processes which leave projects languishing for months or years. You own the high taxes here because you keep voting for them. You completely own these things which negatively affect the quality of everyday life here. You - and "your team" - made them all this way, and I as an American and MoCo resident can stand on my own principles and say that I don't want these things to be this way. I want them to be better than you and "your team" do. You own and support a record of policy and leadership failures which I don't want any part of and which I'm proud to say I disagree with. I won't accept or tolerate these failures, which you do and continue to, on any of these things. Someone like you doesn't mind crashing the plane as long as you're the one flying it.
As for me carrying, I don't do it to be a "savior daddy". If you knew anything about MD Carry Law, I carry for personal self-defense because of the crime you tolerate here and policies you keep voting for. So no, you don't you have to worry about me doing anything for your benefit. It's not for you.
An interesting, if detached-from-reality reply, @3:00. What is hard? Proving you wrong time and again? Trust me, that's child's play. "Common sense" doesn't really enter into my citing the context of the quote that was offer @3:13. That is simply my assuring any Orwellian, black-is-white attempts at inversion of language do not go unchecked.
ReplyDeleteYou say money can't buy common sense. What money? Whose money? What do finances have to do with this discussion thread? Money/salaries/net worth have not been mentioned at all, heretofore. I'll chalk this up as --yet another-- random attempt by you to deflect attention when you realize --yet another-- of your nonsensical howlers has been dismantled.
My search skills may be merely adequate, but they've got yours beaten by a country mile, so your big zinger falls flat. You have established for yourself quite a track record of defeats and disappointments.
Maybe you can entertain yourself by open-carrying on some of the Bethesda high-rise rooftops. I'm sure both the citizenry and the police will appreciate your eagerness to demonstrate your steely resolve.
Not at all compensating for anything.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Yes, your team won here in Maryland so what to do?
ReplyDeleteLet's ban new residential & commercial buildings from using natural gas in 2026. I'm sure Jawando working with Moore will follow DC Councils lead in eliminating mandatory penalties for all crimes except 1st degree murder.
On the National level, liberals go after Musk over allowing free speech yet support Apple restricting Airdrop in China thus supporting a brutal and totalitarian regime.
I wonder how history will judge you.
Pro-Tip for the 12:24 liberal: When you have to tell everyone how good you are, you're living in your own echo chamber. But like your hero, Brandon, telling everyone how good the economy is or Mayorkas claiming the border is secure, we're not laughing with you; We're laughing at you.
ReplyDelete@12:24 -- How, indeed, will history judge us? If only we had been more vocal in supporting avowed racists and Nazi sympathizers, perhaps we might have stood in better stead with you and your side. Ah well. Truly noble, your profound concern for the Chinese. Funny, memory stirs of a preternaturally ocher-hued former president who made loathing of China and their people a broad plank in his platform.
ReplyDelete@12:11 -- I do beg your pardon for not having better distinguished among the several flavors of histrionic reactionaries posting here. In future I shall be more careful to look for your signature "owning it" tag line, which seems the alpha and omega attendant your musings. "[Y]ou don't you have to worry about me[sic] doing anything for your benefit. It's not for you." Number me among those estimating little or nothing you do involves consideration of anyone other than yourself.
It's 7:26 who has made the word "gaslight" the most appropriate descriptor in 2022. One of these days you might have the epiphany that most of us can see today in that the left are the modern day democratic-socialist-workers-party.
ReplyDeleteAh, quid pro quo to a good democrat:
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/lhfang/status/1598835844500303872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1599153048311705600%7Ctwgr%5Ecc11cfc6c0ac7ff85228879a3e51f5adc681a32b%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fthelibertydaily.com%2Fafter-payoff-after-censoring-laptop-story-vijaya-gadde-appointed-by-biden-harris-regimes-to-committee-for-combating-misinformation-and-disinformation%2F
@7:26 PM: Like I said, you want to signal your virtue but you don't want to actually own its repercussions, consequences and outcomes. The pettiness and snark you're attempting to use here doesn't excuse the poor leadership and policy failures which you continue to support and vote for in MoCo. "Owning it" is exactly what someone like you needs to hear, because you have nobody to blame but yourself. There's no Republican policy-making involvement or leadership in MoCo to blame. You voted for MoCo's one-party Democrat leadership which has managed to flush MoCo down the toilet: Violent Crime; Stolen Cars; Illegal Immigration; Overcrowded Schools; Crappy Roads; High Taxes; Business Flight. You own all of these failures, and no amount of snark will absolve you of that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you know nothing about Maryland Self Defense Law... So let's start with: Maryland Criminal Pattern Jury Instructions.
Self-defense (MPJI-Cr 5:07)
Self-defense is a defense, and the defendant must be found not guilty if all of the following three factors are present:
1) The defendant actually believed that they were in immediate and imminent danger of bodily harm.
2) The defendant's belief was reasonable.
3) The defendant used no more force than was reasonably necessary to defend in light of the threatened or actual harm.
How this applies to Deadly Force:
"Deadly-force is that amount of force reasonably calculated to cause death or serious bodily harm. If the defendant is found to have used deadly-force, it must be decided whether the use of deadly-force was reasonable. Deadly-force is reasonable if the defendant actually had a reasonable belief that the aggressor's force was or would be deadly and that the defendant needed a deadly-force response."
Also, Maryland is a "Duty to Retreat" State, so I have a Duty to Retreat if it can be done safely:
"In addition, before using deadly-force, the defendant is required to make all reasonable effort to retreat. The defendant does not have to retreat if the defendant was in home, retreat was unsafe, the avenue of retreat was unknown to the defendant, the defendant was being robbed, the defendant was lawfully arresting the victim. If the defendant was found to have not used deadly-force, then the defendant had no duty to retreat."
As to your mention about "Defense of Others", such as coming to the aid of yourself:
Defense of Others (MPJI-Cr 5:01)
Defense of others is a defense, and the defendant must be found not guilty if all of the following four factors are present:
1) The defendant actually believed that the person defended was in immediate and imminent danger of bodily harm.
2) The defendant's belief was reasonable.
3) The defendant used no more force than was reasonably necessary to defend the person defended in light of the threatened or actual force.
4) The defendant's purpose in using force was to aid the person defended.
All that being said, what I'm hearing from you is a bunch of cognitive dissonance on this.
You tell me I'm engaging in a "savior daddy" fantasy by legally carrying a firearm with a MD Wear & Carry Permit.
I tell you that I'm not doing it to be a "savior daddy", and that "I carry for personal self-defense because of the crime you tolerate here and policies you keep voting for". I further add "So no, you don't have to worry about me doing anything for your benefit. It's not for you."
You then go to the other extreme and respond to me with "Number me among those estimating little or nothing you do involves consideration of anyone other than yourself."
So now you do want me to utilize my firearm in self-defense on your behalf as, what you termed, a "savior daddy" in a "Duty to Retreat" state. Make up your mind here, but remember what you voted for. You own it.
@4:04 Don't ever expect these people to take responsibility for the policies they push but what's worse is their two-tiered electorate, the first like 7:26 care only about fantasy goals never mind the results but bloviate about what should be. The second are the purchased populace hooked to the drug of entitlements that democrats have pumped trillions into for over 50-years with the poverty rate essentially the same or worse.
ReplyDeleteSo don't ever expect these people to understand the responsibility involved with wear & carry as they've been living in a bubble that has been getting smaller by the day.
@5:05 AM: I want to take 7:26 PM seriously, but it's clear that it's just an act. I'm not debating a serious person here. I'm actually debating an ideology that they've imbibed and are merely regurgitating on demand. It's unoriginal and boring. Best thing that could happen is that 7:26 PM join me at the shooting range, meet a few other responsible gun owners and then squeeze off a bunch of rounds on target. They should then apply for a MD Wear & Carry Permit so they could see what's involved in the process.
