Gunfire incident in Friendship Heights NW DC

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a car chase and gunfire incident on the D.C. side of Friendship Heights in broad daylight last Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 12:18 PM. According to MPD detectives, the department received multiple 911 calls about gunshots in the vicinity of 42nd Street and Ingomar Street NW. Witnesses told responding officers that they had seen a gray/silver sedan being chased at high speed down 42nd Street by a black sedan.

According to witness accounts, the white male driver of the black sedan held a black handgun out the driver's side window, and fired multiple shots. Witnesses were not certain whether the gunman was firing into the air, or directly ahead at the vehicle he was chasing.

The witnesses lost sight of the vehicles as they diverged, with the gray/silver vehicle turning onto westbound Jenifer Street NW, and the black vehicle continuing on northbound 42nd Street, and turning onto westbound Military Road NW. Officers recovered nine shell casings on 42nd Street, including one embedded in the front grille of an SUV in the 5000 block.

Not for the first time, a crime post here includes both the time of the occurrence and "in broad daylight." Is that second part really necessary? And, what makes the daylight "broad"? Just asking.

  3. Most likely, not a single one of these reports of gunfire were from lawful gun owners who went thru rigorous background checks, classes and paid very hefty fees to get a wear and carry permit. Crooks and scumbags don't follow any laws get it? No, they don't clearly. MoCo is so anti-gun that they are going around the SCOTUS by passing a law that basically makes carrying outside your home impossible. What's more, MD, under an almost completely Dem legislature, and now a Dem Gov who would sign it, are trying to codify statewide the restrictive MoCo law. MoCo is a model for that state? Now we're really in trouble.

So it would all be cool if it was lawful gun owners causing this? That makes sense.

    2. 5:18 - You missed the point in afraid. Bad guys don't follow any laws especially very restrictive ones on guns. So, bad guys can have one and I can't being a law abiding and tax paying citizen? Tell me what makes sense.

I have not actually, more guns solves exactly no problems. It has nothing to do with tax. Demand more security from the police and services..

"Most likely, not a single one of these reports of gunfire were from lawful gun owners who went thru rigorous background checks, classes and paid very hefty fees to get a wear and carry permit."

And yet those people have guns. Clearly current laws are not adequate. "Get it" yet, JAC? Thankfully, some progress has been made. E.g. at the state level, private gun sales now must go through a licensed arms dealer who runs a federal background check on the person receiving the gun. At the nation level, the Biden administration - with the help of some not-horrific Republicans - was able to, among other things, close the boyfriend loophole the allowed domestic abusers firearm access. Gun access is still an obscenely fcked up problem in this country, but at least SOME people are trying to help fix the problem.

That's the beautiful thing about people like JAC. If they had their way, these would be "lawful gun owners" because he doesn't want laws restricting gun ownership in the first place. He's as pro-criminal as they come.

9:59 Is the reason there are so many problems in society today. A simple understanding that criminals do not obey law might be adequate for most but no, like 10:03 & SN 8:33 you make the least perceptive amongst society look like sharpest knife in the drawer.

A good object lesson might be found in crime statistics in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, NYC and coming soon to DC thanks to the new DC Crime Bill. Unfortunately, like all other failed liberal crime policies, democrats will never take responsibility for the hellscape created by them but instead try to blame anyone else.

    "criminals do not obey law"

Which is why laws exist - so criminals can be locked up and removed from society. People like you hate gun laws because you want everyone to be able to run around with guns shooting whomever they want. Pro-crime, anti-cop, anti-law and order.

@3:03 PM: You just don't get it and you don't want to get it. I have conceal carry permits for the DMV. I'm not the one committing crimes with my legal firearm. Criminals don't give a damn about the gun laws you claim to care about. I want these gun criminals removed from society and locked up longer than you do, but your warped perception of gun laws and guns has you seeing me as a legal carrier the same as you do the criminals.
