Something's been brewing for a couple of months at 4916 Cordell Avenue, and now the veil has been lifted. Rooted 3, a vegan restaurant, will open there soon. "Food for Mind, Body and Planet" is the motto just printed on the front of the restaurant yesterday, a message sure to be warmly received in Bethesda. Part of the work being done at the building since August was the recent sprucing up of the outdoor promenade between Rooted 3 and Pines of Rome with a new mural, and stringed lights overhead.
The building was earlier home to Leahy Plumbing, but was remodeled with shell and core renovations, and these larger front windows in 2016. Local architecture firm Steven J. Karr, AIA was hired to redesign the building to attract a restaurant tenant. The updated space was leased in 2017 by Fine Consigns Bethesda. Much like Karr's reimagining of the old Le Vieux Logis building that successfully attracted prime tenant Organic Butcher of Bethesda, the firm has hit the target once again here with the leasing by Rooted 3. It appears Karr is the firm to hire if you have a vacant space that isn't appealing to upscale tenants in its current form.
I just might have to go get some eats at that joint!
ReplyDeleteCan a vegan restaurant survive in Bethesda?
ReplyDeletePlanta survives 2 years already
Delete7:11 - Probably! It fills in a gap for sure (especially if it's better than Planta.)
ReplyDeleteKarr was the previous architect and left the space vacant, this space was designed by a different architecture firm that has done a lot of restaurants in the region. Recommend checking permits issuance for the Rooted3 buildout.
ReplyDeletePlanta survives and it is mediocre at best, extremely hopeful for this new vegan option!
ReplyDeleteHow Planta has survived is a mystery to me. Hopeful for a really great vegan option in Bethesda!
