The highly-anticipated opening of Dig at 4733 Elm Street in Bethesda will be happening "next week," the New York-based company posted on social media yesterday. This will be the "seasonal comfort food" chain's 34th location nationwide, according to the post. A succession of fallen dining tenants have lived short business lives at this space, despite its prime corner location next to Bethesda Row. There's hope that Dig, with the backing of Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer, will have the money and buzz factor to draw the crowds here.
Yeah, that is a tough space. Multiple failures usually means the public dismissing the site altogether almost no matter who comes. Danny Meyer is legit as I said before. He's one of the most successful food persons in the country. What I don't understand is why they brand this comfort food when they are 97% healthy. That's great and I think really good food and healthy is more than worthy of checking out. But comfort food usually doesn't equal or make you think healthy. JAC - if you know Danny Meyer, a much BETTER addition to Bethesda would be his Daily Provisions all day cafe in NYC - multiple locations there. Would have been great in the Maman spot.

ReplyDelete6:48 - yeah, I think you posted that before. I looked up that place in NYC and agree. That said, this looks pretty decent and healthy and tasty looking menu. Tough spot as mentioned. We'll see.

ReplyDelete12:15 - Bethesda is getting tougher and tougher to even pull your car over while you run in. I guess that's by design them being anti car and all.
ReplyDeleteThe places coming to Bethesda are run by ludicrously clueless owners... the ones who actually believed irresponsible marketing firms and consultants, or else have a great deal of money and very little sense.
ReplyDeleteBethesda used to be a destination for people who lived north of here. Now it's trying to be a destination for the people who live south of here and that's the most ill conceived shitshow of all.
Its really a shame that its take the folks at Federal Realty this long to have a lease with Dig. Bethesda Row didnt even help them promote the opening on their instagram account. Whats up with that?
ReplyDeleteErin, the property where Dig is located is owned by The Greenhill Companies, not Federal Realty, although it is understandably often assumed to be part of Bethesda Row due to its location.
