Foxtrot closes at Bethesda Row, all locations nationwide

Foxtrot Market
has closed all of its locations nationwide, including its store at 7262 Woodmont Avenue at Bethesda Row. The sudden closure Tuesday stunned employees and customers alike. Even the closing announcement had harsh, Wall Street corporate vibes, with identical Xeroxesque farewell messages taped to the windows at seemingly every location. Around 1000 people are now unemployed, and as for those earned customer rewards..."NOOO!"

There's no indication that the Bethesda store was in trouble, but in an inflation-wracked economy where even dollar stores are struggling, there may not have been a large nationwide audience for a Bloomingdales convenience store at this time. Foxtrot opened at Bethesda Row in November 2022. This was the original Mussel Bar space, and now it's opening up just a few weeks after Mussel Bar announced its return at a new spot in the Woodmont Triangle. "Doh!"

I had no idea that this was here or at least forgot. Went to the one in G'twn almost by accident. The prices were, well, DC prices. Not cheap but really nice store. I feel like these places open and do little to no marketing. You can't just open and expect people to find you and come in. Oh well, more pot shops or tattoo parlors coming no doubt.

What a pathetic op ed!

bidens America. Soon the whole block is going to look like DTSS (everything closed).

Remember when all of the Taylor Gourmet restaurants permanently closed in Trump’s America? Including the one on the corner in downtown Bethesda. Has nothing to do with who is president. Both businesses expanded too quickly.

It smells like someone is going to jail. Foxtrot merged with Dom's Kitchen 5 months ago and something must have gone terribly wrong. Employees across the nation, including area managers and leaders, had no clue this was coming. Supposedly they cancelled all catering orders last week and told their employees it was due to "new processes" when really they just planned on shutting down and had their employees running around like rats. Pretty messed up. It's a national story now.

and @JAC - it's bethesda row and federal realty... so no...

Would be great to see a place like Wagshalls backfill this space.

Maybe we could get a small Jewish Deli or Irish Pub here. FoxTrot seemed to be doing good business whenever I stopped by the Bethesda and Arlington locations. But they were large-footprint locations in high-rent areas.

This is sad. Really enjoyed Foxtrot. I second @ 7:28. Really seeing Bethesda Row going downhill fast. Please close nike!

Every downtown needs an Irish Pub! Bethesda used to have two
Would be great in this space.

@ 9:19 - Bethesda Row has opened more high end brand name tenants the last 9 months than almost anywhere else in the area. I walk through it almost every day and there's always a buzz.

LOL. Trumps America was 110% better than it is now and i'm not even a republican nor did I vote for Trump. If you or anyone can't see how horrible Biden is, you are the problem. Bethesda was a whole lot safer and better when Trump was president.

@8:11 & 8:54 - Triggered, broken record replies from the MAGA side. Take your comments to Alabama or Florida where they belong.

1204 you sound trigged

Speaking of Taylor Gourmet, I wouldn't mind seeing a nearby location for PrimoHoagies or Capriotti’s. (I might actually prefer Which Wich, although that chain might not be growing much.)

12:04 completely delusional trying to prop up the current liberals despite factual contradictory data. Keep selling Biden talking points whole the world burns as everyone else can see what's happening.

I wonder if this a big enough space for a Barnes and noble. Not as big as anthro but a lot of room in the kitchen and supply area.

Still gotta fill the Paul and Terrain Cafe locations. Maybe we could put a Cineplex in.

We don't need a Barnes and Noble - snoozefest. Get a good bar/restaurant there!

Can’t wait to see how the class action lawsuit plays out, as the chain didn’t provide reasonable notice required under state law for letting go of its employees mid-shift. While I loved going to foxtrot, the overexpansion too soon and business model made no sense to me. Grocery prices are still pretty high and to overcharge on every product seemed a little crazy. Interested to see what comes next in this space, I second a deli or Irish pub! Mussel bar was such a gem here and I’m so glad it’s coming back.

@ 1054, i have to agree with you. Not a trump supporter either but truth be told the economy has gone sour during bidens term. I'll happily say it was better during trumps term. I've lived in Bethesda for 10 years and have seen the changes since. it keeps getting worse.

Of course goofball boomers try to turn this post into a whinefest about Biden, lol. Rent free!

Shame to see Foxtrot go. I’d like to see a proper club open up here but that space is too small.

Agreed!

It's the economy 8:37. Unfortunately, you may not appreciate 'cause and effect' not realizing that confidence is at the heart of a healthy economy. Even as a once dyed in the wool liberal I see that our present man in the WH has instilled nothing but inconsistency and weakness. That doesn't inspire confidence.

Once again I pose this question...Why do people seem to ruin every conversation with a crazy political comment...go SOMEWHERE else and complain! Poitics idoes not belong here. This is supposed to be a safe space to HELP neighbors!

It's now all about politics, the Dims have made it so.

Our history here will be remembered as 'preNike,' and 'postNike.' It's not easy affording high end esoteric court shoes!
