Mayflower Chinese Food closing in Bethesda

Mayflower Chinese Food
at 7925 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda will close by the end of the month. The owner says the restaurant's lease is up, and a renewal agreement could not be reached with the landlord. However, he is hopeful to find a new location nearby where it can reopen. Fans of the restaurant would be wise to drop by soon for a meal.

The leases are crazy these days considering all the county hoops you need to jump through to make any business work. They killed Louisiana Express then Kitchen.

I'm sorry to hear they're leaving that location, and I hope they can find a new home nearby. I always enjoyed their food.
That side of the block is going to be pretty bare if the Mayflower's site, the former restaurant on the corner, and the jewelry store aren't occupied soon.

Great food and great people. They have always delivered quick and friendly service. The family that operates Mayflower has been feeding my family at least once per month for many years. They would be missed so I hope they find a new spot.

The leases have nothing to do with the county, aye, yi yi.

I dunno... are we sure this isn't due to a moribund economy?

I think the original point was, considering all of the other requirements (some of which are county-imposed) on businesses, leases (even if not from the county) are just one more burden.
