How do they get the Teslas in and out of the Tesla Store at Westfield Montgomery Mall? I always imagined there was a large freight door somewhere beyond the public areas of the mall where cars could enter and exit. But one night recently a Tesla was caught exiting the mall, and was able to go through a regular doorway. Now how do they get combustion engine cars in and out without turning the motor on?

Goldberg's New York Bagels closes in Potomac

Goldberg's New York Bagels has closed at 7731 Tuckerman Lane in the Cabin John Shopping Center in Potomac. The shop was open for a decade at the center, which has undergone major changes in recent years. Goldberg's' other locations in Rockville and Silver Spring remain open for business.

Bethesda Place staircase construction update (Photos)

There are two outdoor staircases being updated in the renovations at Bethesda Place. This one is on the Woodmont Avenue side of the property and connects to the plaza area of the property. The other is on the Old Georgetown Road side.

Assault at Montgomery Mall

Montgomery County police were called to Westfield Montgomery Mall Saturday evening, after a 2nd-degree assault was reported there. The assault was reported at the mall at 6:07 PM, according to crime data.

Tacombi delays Bethesda opening to early summer

It's been a little over 13 months since we learned New York magazine's choice for "New York City's absolute best taco" would be coming to downtown Bethesda. But despite the appearance of a completed interior, and signage glowing in the night, a grand opening continues to elude Tacombi at 4749 Bethesda Avenue. The latest target opening date of March 2022 came and went. Now a spokesperson for the chain says that the company expects the Bethesda location to open early this summer.

Inside the future restaurant, tables and chairs are now arranged in the dining room. The interior aesthetic is definitely reminiscent of establishments you would encounter in parts of Mexico. "Buena Bethesdita," a sign reads, above a welcome in Spanish and a palm tree. With Frank Pepe now open at Montgomery Mall, Tacombi is probably the most-anticipated Bethesda restaurant debut on the radar right now.

Norfolk Avenue Starbucks closes early

One downtown Bethesda Starbucks store closed early today. The location at 7700 Norfolk Avenue closed at 1:30 PM this afternoon; the store usually remains open until 7:30 PM on Sunday nights. No explanation for the closure was posted, but the Starbucks is expected to reopen on normal hours tomorrow.

Crane joins work at Westbard Square in Bethesda (Photos)

A crane has been brought in to assist construction work at the Westbard Square project at 5400 Westbard Avenue in Bethesda. It is being used to hoist heavy materials on the future site of the new Giant building. Construction is still in the very early stage, as there is extensive installation of stormwater management infrastructure that must be completed beneath the future Giant building and town square.

Plant-based egg company sends message to Congress in downtown Bethesda

JUST Egg, a plant-based egg company, is making a political statement with posters in downtown Bethesda. The San Francisco based firm uses mung bean protein to create a product it claims will make "the best eggs ever," with less impact on the environment than real eggs. Now JUST Egg is touting its green bonafides as having accomplished more on environmental issues than the U.S. Congress, on these posters and a website.

The Egging Congress posters in the covered pedestrian walkway at 7316 Wisconsin specifically target Republican Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona and Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas. Neither the posters nor the website explain why they are singled out, and neither man is known to haunt downtown Bethesda establishments. But the website does detect your location, and will facilitate you sending a text or video message to your representatives - in this case, Congressman Jamie Raskin and Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin - asking them to take more urgent action on climate change.

If you live "inside the Beltway," the website also provides a schedule for where you can try a sample of JUST Eggs in Washington, D.C. throughout the week. The company says its sales represent the equivalent of 250 million animal-produced eggs, and have thus saved 43.6 million kilograms of CO2e, 9.1 billion gallons of water, and 13,446 acres of land. It argues that this is more than any legislation passed by Congress has accomplished so far.

JUST Egg's posters join the Washington Commanders' inside the pedestrian walkway. You never know when Tom Cotton might stroll through on an evening perambulation, looking for NFL tickets and new breakfast ideas.

Westwood Center II demolition update (Photos)

About 35% of the Westwood Center II mini-mall at 5110 Ridgefield Road in Bethesda has been demolished as of today. It looks like the whole parking deck overhang has been brought down. The Yirasai Sushi "wing" is completely gone, as well. This building and the already-razed Citgo station next door are being cleared away to make room for an assisted-living development, and a realigned Westbard Avenue that will connect directly to River Road.
