Mural repainted on Parking Garage 35 in Bethesda

A lot of work has been going on at the Woodmont Rugby Public Parking Garage 35 in downtown Bethesda this spring. That included having the facade repainted, but...oops! There was a public art mural on the Woodmont Avenue side, and it was painted over or removed. Heckuva job, Brownie! You may recall that artist Megan Lewis won the Bethesda Urban Partnership Paint the Town competition six years ago, earning the opportunity to paint this work. She then painted the mural in the summer of 2020, amid the pandemic lockdowns. Well, it had to be sketched out and repainted all over again this month!

Remember the Bethesda Urban Partnership announcement seeking local artists to paint a mural on Montgomery County Public Parking Garage 35 I wrote about this past February? Artist Megan Lewis is now painting it on the facade of the Woodmont-Rugby garage facing Woodmont Avenue. On Thursday, outlines had been sketched across the wall, and the colors were being added.

Artists sought for Bethesda garage mural opportunity

The Bethesda Urban Partnership has announced a new Paint the Town mural competition for downtown Bethesda for 2020. Two sides of the Woodmont-Rugby Public Parking Garage 35 are being offered for a mural totaling about 3000 SF. The winning artist proposal will receive $32,500 for the mural.

Interested artists 18-and-older may apply to Bethesda UP by April 6, 2020. Artists must be residents of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. to qualify. The mural subject must be transportation.

Downtown Bethesda garage gets freshening (Photos)

Painters shut down the Woodmont-Rugby Public Parking Garage 35 overnight, to apply fresh paint. It was kind of a strange situation, as the garage was supposed to be closed, but there were still many cars inside. And some random cars had protective tarps thrown over them, while others sat exposed, presumably, to dripping paint. On the other hand, I assume they know what they are doing, and where the paint would be dripping.

Rugby Avenue parking garage driveway closed off (Photos)

The driveway access to the Woodmont-Rugby parking garage (Public Parking Garage 35) from Rugby Avenue was closed off yesterday. Pedestrian access remains open, however, as do the vehicular entrance and exit on Woodmont Avenue. The closure is related to construction of the new 2nd District Montgomery County Police station on the Rugby property adjacent to the garage.
