The new Shipshape HQ is taking over the vacant space upstairs at the EagleBank building, located at the intersection of Fairmont and Woodmont Avenues.
Meanwhile, ahead of demolition, asbestos removal will begin today at the 4962 Fairmont office building. That work is expected to take 10 days. Ultimately, the building will be demolished to make way for Duball, LLC's 4990 Fairmont luxury condo tower.

"Doomed asbestos building"
ReplyDeleteIt's not being torn down because they found asbestos in it. Nearly all buildings built before asbestos was banned have at least some asbestos, and this must be abated when doing major renovations or in this case, demolition.

5:53: No kidding, "birdbrain". I've been reporting on this demolition for weeks, and have always said - including in the above article - that it is being demolished to clear the site for the 4990 Fairmont condos. What a moron.

Yes thank goodness! We are getting some true density and development instead of Greenhill one story crap he sits on. To what end? Greenhill please someone find out or speak up. Are you going to assemble and build up our community or just trudge along as is and not care?

ReplyDeleteI'm probably in the minority here, but I'm going to miss the stone buildings. All the new sparkly-shiny stuff seems so cold, sterile and glossy.
ReplyDeleteThe headline is misleading and sensationalizes the tenants moving out. They are moving out because the building is slated for demolition, totally independent of the asbestos sign. The sign is required because as part of the scheduled demolition, asbestos was found and proper abatement procedures must be followed. It has absolutely nothing to do with why the tenants are moving out. It would be helpful to your readers if you fuller understood what you write about rather than trying to sensationalize these events.
