Bethesda office building to be demolished for 4990 Fairmont luxury condo tower (Photos)

The other demolition shoe has dropped on the future site of Duball, LLC's 4990 Fairmont luxury condo tower. Eastham's has vacated its half of the property, which was a former BP gas station at the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Old Georgetown Road. Now Duball has requested demolition and sheeting and shoring permits for 4962 Fairmont, a small office building between Eastham's and the Positano Italian restaurant.

4990 Fairmont will be a 17-story tower with 71 units, and 3000 SF of retail. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin before the end of the year, with a 2017 delivery date.

There were a few interesting relics left behind by Eastham's, including an ancient gas price sign.
Remember when diesel
cost 99 cents?

Oh cool I didn't realize this project included the second building. Thanks for the update, Dyer. This should be a good addition to woodmont triangle, taking residential and retail to the end of the block.

Ancient gas sign? If it were so ancient the sign might read "Esso" there's nothing ancient about an "Exxon" sign because a price digit is missing. It's a good thing you aren't an archaeologist, with all of your Jurassic facts.

Diesel hasn't been that low in decades...so ancient is accurate!

I don't know about diesel per se, but gas was under a dollar as recently as 1999.

Does anyone know if Eastham's service center is relocating? Their service department was really great - reliable, efficient, honest, trustworthy. No idea where to take my car to get serviced (by individuals I can trust) now!

Try Crawford's Goodyear on Arlington.

Any news on where they might go?

Where have the employees gone in the meantime?

Thanks Bobby.
