4990 FAIRMONT AVENUE LUXURY APARTMENT BUILDING RECOMMENDED FOR APPROVAL (PHOTOS)

A 72-unit luxury apartment building, with ground floor retail and an arts incubator to be run by Bethesda Urban Partnership, is recommended for approval by Montgomery County planning staff.

The developer of the mixed-use building will renovate the public sidewalk alongside it. And upgrade the alley between the property and a county public parking garage with brick pavers.

One unusual feature of the 17-story building's design is that the parking garage will be above ground, in between the retail and residential floors.

The site currently houses an auto repair facility, and a convenience store, at Fairmont and Old Georgetown Road.
