The JBG Companies' new retail building on Bethesda Avenue at Woodmont Avenue is really taking shape. You can now see that the building curves along with the bend in the Capital Crescent Trail behind it, a detail not visible in the few renderings of the structure that have been made publicly available.
There's been much speculation about who the building is being built for, if there is even a tenant at all. One rumor was that Whole Foods Market is the tenant, but a spokesperson for the grocery chain told me that is not true. Whatever is going in there, it has location, location, location.
Is it only two stories? Too bad it's not taller. The FRIT building is 5 stories right? Could use more office and housing there to support the retail.
ReplyDeleteRobert, have you checked with Balducci's as the mystery tenant? They are more upscale than whole foods and a much better fit for that location.
ReplyDeletea grocery store without its own parking site will not work. that's not it. I'd say it's going to be multiple retail spots, certainly to include at least one dining establishment.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteI heard Dean & Delucca - shopping downstairs, dining up.
ReplyDeleteThat site is not anywhere near big enough to hold a Whole Paycheck, er, Whole Foods.

ReplyDelete@ 10:25 AM - You seem...inarticulate.
ReplyDeleteQuite articulate. Too dumbfounded to speak.
ReplyDeleteWhy should a Bethesda blogger be reporting on the moribundness of Fairfax County?
SMDH. Haters gonna hate.
Definitely not a grocery store based on size and parking.
ReplyDeleteWould have liked to see more height for residential or commercial, but maybe it's designed to integrate with the pending big commercial development next door. JBG hasn't revealed much about this part of the project.
