Liberty Socks, a new pop-up shop, has just opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Owned by U.S. Army combat veteran and Bronze Star medal recipient Alao Hogan, the kiosk only sells socks designed and made in the U.S.A.
Ten percent of all profits of the kiosk go to the East Harlem Tutorial Program. Socks include The Obama, The Reagan, The Jackson and The Lincoln. Now you've got me flashing back to those $3 Obama Socks at CVS, man.
@Dyer pic - BAA HAA HAAA HAAAW!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty good. I like how he intentionally put up a goofy pic since folks were teasing him. He's playing along! So cute!
DeleteThat pic. My day has been made.

Is this pop-up sock store where Nordstrom's used to be?

Who wants to bet that if Dyer were a Make-A-Wish kid, he'd ask to sit in Hans' chair for the day
ReplyDelete#DeadBeatDyer
Wow that Obama socks link goes way back in time to the era where your articles got no comments. This one should end up getting 60+
ReplyDeleteAlso, is the girl over your shoulder Mrs Dyer?
The hashtag gag is old, lame, and sad. <--did not forget the Oxford comma, practicing safe grammar.
ReplyDeleteHashtags are a Gag? Old? Lame? Sad?
DeleteUnderstands what an Oxford comma is?
You must be above 40 and not very social media savvy.
The kids on the Short Bus to Westbard now all have those nice helmets.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hans Riemer!

ReplyDeleteYou don't know an Oxford comma?? Also called a serial comma? Still confused? Are you educated?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, your hashtags are lame, repetitive and boring. <-no Oxford comma this time.
And there's 8:18AM calling off the dogs. Haha. Probably meant comment of the day, but mine's better.
I wish the idiotic, childish, useless trolls would find something better to do with their time instead of posting here so that readers who are actually interested in the information at hand wouldn't have to wade through this garbage.
ReplyDelete@ 10:39 AM - you came here to hear Dyer talking about socks while wearing a hard hat? LOL

Come on, 1155, I said DON'T bother telling Dyer!
ReplyDeleteGull is that you?
ReplyDeleteBob?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Han Riemer get all the credit? What about Ike?
ReplyDeleteDyer has thoughtfully taught us that everything bad that happens in MoCo is Han's fault, and anything good is to his credit also.
Delete11:55 great news thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIs Dyer an anti-vaxxer?
ReplyDeleteHe should give the money to veterans especially those who do not receive quality medical care

ReplyDelete6:28: Great, we know that website is in trouble, struggling financially, and needs to post links in my comments section to get readers.
DeleteGreat also, that there is a story like that every year in MoCo's biotech sector. Biotech hasn't been struggling like that website is, and is a rare bright spot in Montgomery County's otherwise moribund economy. One reason? Not only the government help, but also the many exemptions biotechnology companies get from the anti-business tax and regulations of MoCo and Maryland. It shows, much like Tax Free shopping events, that when you reduce those burdens, economic activity increases.
You can count on Dyer to tell us about the cloud behind every silver lining.
ReplyDeleteI'd be more worried if a politician loved everything a particular journalist wrote.
ReplyDeleteReamer and Leventhal have it so easy in the local media...they're thriving because of the lack of oversight or clear eyed coverage of what they're doing (or not doing in Reamer's case). They have a tremendous apparatus of old, legacy media that praises them daily: a weekly local newspaper, The Post, a cable channel, radio (including WMAL), the Real Housewives of Potomac glossy magazine.
Did anyone else get excited last month when Leventhal tweeted about his career being over...then the tweet ended with another self serving comment congratulating himself. He then retweeted another article praising him. Unbelievable.
I love this claim of "daily attaboys from the local media". It is so hilariously insane. Dyer and his shill live in an alternate universe.
ReplyDeleteDyer, you say that as if biotech isn't one of the highest salaried sectors - of course that's what MoCo rightfully shoots for. While moribund VA attracts Volkswagen's $50K/year admin jobs, MoCo attracts $150K/year scientist and technician jobs.
ReplyDelete8:06: Huh? I never said it wasn't a high-wage sector. Alas, it is the only area of major success for the County. Now Northern Virginia is accelerating its own biotechnology sector, in addition to the many other high-wage employment sectors it currently dominates in our region. Congratulating yourself on one field goal when the other team is up 48-3 doesn't win games.
Delete8:06 PM Reamer and Leventhal have the great Titanic like weight of the old, legacy media on their side.
ReplyDeleteI do give The Washington Post some credit: they stripped their support of Reamer and exposed that he didn't accomplish anything in his entire first term (or in his second so far).
And now The Post is reporting that the MoCo economy is "moribund". They have aligned with Robert Dyer! Jeff Bezos really is improving things! Did Leventhal retweet that story?
If the Post keeps this trajectory, I will remove them from the list of old, legacy media that drops to their knees to praise the Council, like WMAL and the Council's cable channel have to.
ALL HAIL HANS RIEMER ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US
ReplyDeleteAccording to The Post, no base belong to Reamer.
DeleteAND, we have a moribund MoCo economy. Sad!
At this rate, Leventhal may start writing more soliloquies about the end of career.
Bethesdan/Elm/Rugby/Woodmont - LOL
ReplyDelete@ 8:50 PM - You mean when the voters promote Leventhal from Councilman to Executive?
ReplyDeleteLeventhal was talking about the end of his career, not a promotion. His words, not mine.
DeleteWhat in God's name has he done to deserve a promotion? We need someone level headed as county exec.
"we know that website is in trouble, struggling financially"
ReplyDelete"We know"? You and which of your gerbils?
Got any proof of this claim?
#DodgingDyer
9:02: Yeah - they have to post spam URLs to their articles in my comments section. Whereas I don't have to post URLs over on their site. It speaks for itself - they're in trouble and struggling for readers beyond what their paid clicks can bring in. Baba Booey.
Delete"We need someone level headed as county exec."
ReplyDeleteSays Robert Dyer's biggest fanboy.
That's a joke right, did someone really say Robett Dyer is level headed??!!
DeleteYou're the one seeking attention from Robert Dyer.
DeleteThere's no support for Leventhal as county exec. Look at the man's temperament.
Bethesdan/Rugby/Elm/Woodmont - Maybe you need to look at Robert Dyer's temperament.
ReplyDeleteRobert, did you ever thing people where just trying to have a discussion by posting links? Some of the posted information relates to comments you've made about lack of new jobs/companies in the County and such
ReplyDeleteAgreed
Delete3:48: No, they are so rarely relevant to the topic at hand that they are clearly spam links for a competing site desperate for readers.
ReplyDeleteFor a serious conversation, just link to Hogan's press release.
It's kind of like Ken Hartman using taxpayer funds to put links to a particular website, when there is always an official County or Planning Board page with ALL of the information, even beyond what is covered in a news article on the same topic.
That was three ridiculous statements that just undermined Robert Dyer's credibility.
Delete"No, they are so rarely relevant to the topic at hand that they are clearly spam links for a competing site desperate for readers." - Robert Dyer
DeleteSo do you promise if a link is directly relevant to the topic at hand that you won't delete it, even if it comes from BM?
"For a serious conversation, just link to Hogan's press release."
ReplyDeleteDyer is Hogan's "lapdog media, giving him daily attaboys".
4:29: I think you're confused - it's the elected officials who give certain MEDIA OUTLETS "attaboys" via social media on a regular basis, for positive coverage of government. Wake up, dude.
ReplyDelete4:40: Hell, no.
"Hell no"
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean, "no, I won't delete links to BM if they are relevant to the topic?"
4:58: Nope, it means all spam links will be deleted as always. You're just wasting time typing them.
ReplyDeleteSo then it has nothing to do with relevancy, and more that you believe any link to BM is an intentional spam / ad?
DeleteSo much cray in this comment thread we gonna have ourselves a low country boil.
ReplyDelete@ 5:07 AM - Both are delicious, but I believe you are confusing the cuisines of Louisiana and South Carolina.
Delete"For a serious conversation, just link to Hogan's press release. " - Robert Dyer
ReplyDeleteWhy do you believe Hogan's press releases and not say a study used by the county planning department?
"think you're confused - it's the elected officials who give certain MEDIA OUTLETS "attaboys" via social media on a regular basis, for positive coverage of government. Wake up, dude." - Robert Dyer
ReplyDeleteCombined with "for a serious conversation, just link to Hogan's press release" - Robert Dyer
So basically you think some media outlets pander to some elected officials. And then you straight up say you pander to some elected officials.
Not to mention you always comment how other local media is essentially PR for some elected officials.
Talk about a hypocrite
5:07: I don't "believe" it; it is spam.
ReplyDelete5:14: I haven't pandered to any elected officials. You know how many attaboys I've gotten from Hogan? ZERO.
Local media is functioning as PR for some elected officials, the coverage and attaboys speak for themselves. When's the last time a County Council member shared one of my articles on social media, no matter how informative or relevant it might be to their constituents? Same can be said for Ken Hartman in the taxpayer funded newsletters.
I've had articles on the Rock Spring/White Flint meeting (which nobody else covered), Goldsboro townhomes (ditto), new Zipcar spaces on Cordell Avenue, etc. just in the last couple of weeks. None of them included in the taxpayer-funded newsletter.
It's a deal worked out behind the scenes, and the actions speak for themselves. In other words, it's more important that Bethesda residents click on a certain website than it is to know about an important traffic alert or new Zipcars being available. Right.
When you say "For a serious conversation, just link to Hogan's press release." that's pretty much you being Hogan's fanboy spokesperson.
ReplyDelete6:15: No, if your message is simply that x number of people are being hired at x company, link to the announcement, as opposed to spamming for the same competing media outlet. What biotech has to do with presidential socks, I have no idea. Why was the topic being brought up other than as an excuse to post a URL to the other website?
ReplyDelete"It's a deal worked out behind the scenes, and the actions speak for themselves."
ReplyDeleteI can't prove any of it, but it speaks for itself!

ReplyDeleteIt's funny to see Dyer backtrack when he's caught in his own lies.
ReplyDeleteDyer in the "summer concerts" comments: "County has the dumb luck of benefitting from, our successful biotech sector"
Dyer now: "Biotech hasn't been struggling...One reason? Not only the government help, but also the many exemptions biotechnology companies get"
I'm not even going to discuss the "moribund economy" nonsense, because at this point he's just trolling. Everyone with common sense, including residents, industry executives, public officials, analysts, and even Dyer's friends know that's not the case. He just keeps saying it to antagonize readers, and keep the comments threads going. I've fell for the bait one too many times...
6:50: You're the liar - you just misquoted me. I said the County benefits from the dumb luck of being gifted with federal government jobs, NOT BIOTECH, which is a private sector success albeit with extensive government help.
DeleteMoribund isn't "nonsense" - Bill Turque just wrote in the Post that the economy of eastern Montgomery County is "moribund."
It's catching on! #moribund
"What biotech has to do with presidential socks, I have no idea."
ReplyDeleteLOL
Of NoVa's nine Fortune 500 companies, only two are neither government contractors or government-sponsored enterprises - Capital One and Hilton.
ReplyDeleteWhereas three of MoCo's Fortune 500 companies, Discovery Communications, Host Hotels & Resorts, and Marriott-Starwood fit that description.
7:19: A government contractor is still a private company. Better recalculate.

3:07: Nope, they actually have to compete for the contracts. Whereas, Obama-Van Hollen can deploy 3000 federal additional employees into MoCo overnight for political reasons. Just like W rammed through the ICC for Ehrlich.
ReplyDeleteThat world of partisan politics is completely separate from private companies competing for government contracts.
Is your position on U.S. defense spending the same as the one ISIS and George Leventhal share?

It's Friday, but Every Day Is Crazy Day on Dyer's blog.
5:25: Every one of the statements you quoted is true, and only an insane person would term them "crazy."
ReplyDeleteSo half the commentors here are insane I guess. Which half depends on your opinion of Dyer and position on his opinions.
Delete6:36: No, just the one troll commenter - his posts speak for themselves! A total nutjob.
ReplyDeleteDo you still really honestly believe it's one "lone" troll? You've said before you think it's one of these and others:
Delete- Hans representative
- Equity One PR person
- AK
- SH
- DR
Also there seem to be a few others:
- Westbard chanting guy
- vampire guy (although I haven't seen that around in a while)
All these really you believe is one person?
6:52: They're all the same person, and the occasional fellow traveler. He also has some kind of compulsive disorder that requires him to post repetitive comments with 3rd grade Level content (and that's being charitable).
DeleteSo you really seriously do believe the same single person is paid and posts on behalf of Hans, Equity One, AK, SH, and DR?
DeleteAll the crazy postings aside.
"his posts speak for themselves! A total nutjob."
ReplyDeleteYou mean the posts that consist entirely of Dyer's comments?
How come Andrew Metcalf never gets accused of being "the lone troll"?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteRobert did you even pass 3rd grade? Why would you capitalize the "L" in level? #birdbrain
ReplyDeleteWhy would 12:56PM forget the comma after "Robert?" #biggerbirdbrain
ReplyDeleteAll of the really weird comments come from the same guy.
ReplyDeleteHis same daily topics are: how much does Dyer make, Dyer's political runs, Dyer's music career, being in public meetings with Dyer and always something about "Bethesda Magazine" (used to always reference BethesdaNow, until that died. Has since substituted the Magazine in his rants)
Now, put all that together, combined with who doesn't have family responsibilities but is in front of a keyboard all day with no serious work, and it's not hard to guess who the nutty commenter is.
@ 4:43 PM - Do you understand how to write in complete sentences?
DeleteSame guy? Any proof behind that claim?
Delete7:36PM same nut...he's never had a promotion since 2012, angry and is taking it out on Robert Dyer.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to be an FBI profiler to know the anonymous nut fits the mold perfect. No family, angry, bitter, white, profane, psychotic, sitting in front of a keyboard 9am-5pm with very little work to do, uses the same phrases from his bylined blog posts. Sound familiar?
"Sound familiar?"
ReplyDeleteYes. Except for the "9am-5pm" part, it fits Robert Dyer to a "T".
"fits the mold perfect"
Do you understand the difference between adjectives and adverbs?
10:45pm: you're projecting your issues on to Dyer.
