Biotech hasn't been struggling like that website is, and is a rare bright spot in Montgomery County's otherwise moribund economy. One reason? Not only the government help, but also the many exemptions biotechnology companies get from the anti-business tax and regulations of MoCo and Maryland. It shows, much like Tax Free shopping events, that when you reduce those burdens, economic activity increases.
You can count on Dyer to tell us about the cloud behind every silver lining.

ReplyDeleteReamer and Leventhal have it so easy in the local media...they're thriving because of the lack of oversight or clear eyed coverage of what they're doing (or not doing in Reamer's case). They have a tremendous apparatus of old, legacy media that praises them daily: a weekly local newspaper, The Post, a cable channel, radio (including WMAL), the Real Housewives of Potomac glossy magazine.
Did anyone else get excited last month when Leventhal tweeted about his career being over...then the tweet ended with another self serving comment congratulating himself. He then retweeted another article praising him. Unbelievable.
I love this claim of "daily attaboys from the local media". It is so hilariously insane. Dyer and his shill live in an alternate universe.

And now The Post is reporting that the MoCo economy is "moribund". They have aligned with Robert Dyer! Jeff Bezos really is improving things! Did Leventhal retweet that story?
If the Post keeps this trajectory, I will remove them from the list of old, legacy media that drops to their knees to praise the Council, like WMAL and the Council's cable channel have to.

Local media is functioning as PR for some elected officials, the coverage and attaboys speak for themselves. When's the last time a County Council member shared one of my articles on social media, no matter how informative or relevant it might be to their constituents? Same can be said for Ken Hartman in the taxpayer funded newsletters.
I've had articles on the Rock Spring/White Flint meeting (which nobody else covered), Goldsboro townhomes (ditto), new Zipcar spaces on Cordell Avenue, etc. just in the last couple of weeks. None of them included in the taxpayer-funded newsletter.
It's a deal worked out behind the scenes, and the actions speak for themselves. In other words, it's more important that Bethesda residents click on a certain website than it is to know about an important traffic alert or new Zipcars being available. Right.
