SB Wisconsin Avenue to close Saturday between Battery Lane & Cordell Avenue in Bethesda

All southbound lanes of Wisconsin Avenue (MD 355) will close this Saturday, January 14 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Detour signs will be posted to direct southbound traffic around the closure. The closure is necessary to permit equipment to be raised up to the roof of the 8200 Wisconsin apartment tower.

Should weather prevent the work from being done, it will be rescheduled for Saturday, January 28.

This building kind of looks like an eyesore, compared to the newer modern ones, having lived in Aldon Properties for a year when I first moved to Bethesda in 2013, it is kind of a metaphor for all of their properties.

It's affordable, so I don't think it fits into the Bethesda Master Plan. It's doomed.

  3. Their renovation has been ongoing for quite some time now - the Woodmont facade doesn't seem to have changed much. Any word on what's going on and when this might finish?

@9:21 AM - They have talked about the renovation being done by July 2017...

Will Dyer review Community's "Golden Shower" Burger?

"The patty is “drenched with self-tanning cheddar and yellow mustard leaking down the sides, and topped with a very small pickle.” It also comes with a tall glass of lemonade and a lemon-glazed doughnut for an “unforgettable happy ending.”
The combo meal is currently available by request only for one day only, Jan. 11, and goes for $20. For every one sold, the restaurant will donate $5 to Planned Parenthood Action."

The renovations have been going on for over 2 years now. The Woodmont lobby has been in complete disarray and under construction since early 2015. Management never has any answers for residents when asked about revised timelines for completion. It's a disgrace. Aldon should be ashamed of themselves (and funny how it took less than 6 months for them to build out their sparkling white, brand new corporate offices on the Wisconsin side a couple years back). Why does a lobby renovation take 2+ years (with no end in sight by the way). Elevators break down daily. Underground parking garage has also been under construction for over 2 years, so no parking. Building had no hot water for over 48 hours last weekend.

Here are the "updates" Aldon posts for residents: http://www.8200apts.com. You'll note that the "updated" timeline for completion of the Woodmont lobby states it was to be completed by Q2 2015. And that was one of their revised (i.e., extended) timelines posted last year. The Woodmont lobby construction started in 2014 and was supposed to originally be completed mid-2015.

@10:28 AM - what specific renovations are supposed to be done by then? Just the lobby has been under construction since 2014. At that pace, If they're gonna do the facade too don't expect a lot of progress for many, many years.

@4:33 PM this is 9:21 AM - Aldon actually had a very informative information session recently where they showed residents a revised construction schedule and they explained their current hurdles to completing it. You discuss the fact that the corporate offices on Wisconsin Ave took six months to complete but you fail to acknowledge that the lobby on Wisconsin Ave is getting a new mail room, courtyard, front desk, package room, trash room, and other rooms in the back they have yet to announce. They also added a new elevator to connect Wisconsin and Woodmont. Not exactly six months worth of work... I am not in anyway affiliated with Aldon but I am a resident and I see so many residents bitching but not comparing apples to apples. I will agree though, the no hot water for 48 hours was pretty bad.

@4:41 AM - I'm confused by your post for a few reasons. First, if you also posted the 9:21 AM comment, why did you ask when renovations will be done, if you already appear to have so much inside information? That's weird. Second, what's your point about the Wisconsin lobby? The level of work they performed is comparable, if not MORE, than what they're supposedly doing to the Woodmont Lobby. Do you forget that the Wisconsin side had multiple storefronts (Hair Cuttery, etc), doctors offices, etc. in place? Third, I guess you haven't noticed the recent number of new buildings in Bethesda -- the one right across from Harris Teeter is almost done! All constructed in less time than its taking to renovate a lobby. And the biggest issue has been the poor communication by Aldon -- they were supposed to complete the lobby by summer 2015. They consistently push back timelines and give false information when asked. Give me a break.

@4:41 AM - This is 4:41 AM and 10:28 AM (sorry I said I was 9:21 AM; I was typing my response on a cellphone). I actually did forget about the old photo store, doctors office, and Hair Cuttery. My friends and I actually joked that the 8300 building went up faster than the 8200 lobby renovations. However, those apartments are twice the amount as 8200's so I wonder if cost comes into play? I am glad 8200 has offered a reduced rent for those living in 8200 and I hope they continue that practice until it is finished.

@4:41 AM - what new elevator connecting Wisconsin to Woodmont are you talking about? You realize those two streets are parallel to one another right? Is some sort of new elevator technology that run sideways or something? They did install a temp "lift" elevator somewhere for purposes of the garage construction if that's what you're trying to refer to. And I would hope there would be a mail room and garbage room! Your talking like that's a luxury of some sort versus a necessity!

@3:54 PM - This is 4:41 AM. ARE you a fucking idiot?? Wisconsin Avenue is a good 50 feet higher in elevation than Woodmont Ave. Go to Battery lane from Woodmont Ave and look towards Wisconsin, it is a HILL. If you were to ever go inside 8200 you would know that to get to the management office residents wither have to walk up two floors of stairs or take the elevators. Part of the renovations include a smaller elevator that would go from the Woodmont lobby to Wisconsin Ave management office in order to prevent people from clogging up the main elevators. If you actually like in 8200, how about you walk towards the management office from Woodmont and turn right before getting to the glass doors - there is a hole in the ground.

@4:38 PM - keep drinking the Aldon Kool Aid. Have you ever been stuck in these elevators or had to walk up 10 flights of stairs?? I have. Too many times to count.

@8:15PM - and let's not forget to mention the ridiculous design of the new elevator lobby. If someone is moving in or out, the area around the freight elevator is essentially BLOCKED so people can't use the other elevators. Great design guys

@4:38PM - the only reason the elevators are clogged is cause none of them ever work.

@4:38 PM - elevators already go down to garage level so not sure what your point is.
