The vacant former location of Tommy Joe's at 4714 Montgomery Lane in downtown Bethesda has been somewhat of a magnet for vandals and vagrants in recent years. People have broken into the building, left the door ajar, and spray-painted graffiti on the walls inside. Now action has been taken to secure the property, which has been boarded up. The once-busy bar is part of the future site of a high-rise building. Tommy Joe's has long ago moved to a more upscale and very successful rooftop location at 7940 Norfolk Avenue.

A relic of Bethesda past, Durty Nelly's. Damian Einstein from WHFS fame was a frequent visitor always looking for a great, new band. The music was legend and the bar scene was always happening. Where are those great watering holes that were so common in Bethesda? The new Tommy Joe's may be one and Caddies as well. But the nightlife is not what it used to be. Lastly, bring back Hard Times. Man, is that a loss.
That building sure is low, especially compared to its neighbors. A relic of the "old" Bethesda which will be nevermore.
That would be a great place for the Porta Potties and wash stations that are in the bus transfer station for the homeless. Maybe we could put in portable showers ? It seems out of the way and a great place for them to clean up, etc.
About time they did this...

I think the last musical act I saw there before it became Tommy Joe's, was either Tommy Lepson or The Kennedy's... Good times.
I'm going to say the unspoken. Bethesda has a reputation of being inhospitable to the folks that frequent joints open after they roll up the sidewalks. The richy rich experience only goes so far.
Not enough of those rich folks around anymore to support Bethesda? Well!! Let's hire more police. That'll bring them back.
Competitive prices, good service and everybody makes a decent living including the owner.

No! We can't afford to help anybody else if they aren't willing to carry a gun.
It would be nice to provide the needy lockers to store their what nots too.
