Bob's Shanghai "opening soon" in Bethesda (Photos)

Bob's Shanghai
is "opening soon" in Bethesda, according to coming-soon signage posted in the windows of its future space yesterday afternoon. I broke the news in September that the popular and award-winning Chinese restaurant would be filling the old Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza spot in the ground floor of the Windsor Bethesda apartment tower at 7770 Norfolk Avenue. Needless to say, it's quite an amenity to have a Bob's Shanghai and a Medium Rare in the bottom of your apartment building, so this is quite a coup for the Windsor - and for residents of the many nearby buildings, as well. Construction has been underway inside for several weeks, but the windows are still papered over, so the progress on the interior fit-out remains unknown.

My go to spot and among the best and most authentic Chinese food around. Spring seems a little long for a complete build out and grand opening but can't wait.

Menu recommendations, please, JAC. I ran away from the Rockville place, scared by the breadth of options.

2:24 - Dan Dan noodles are amazing and often pretty darn spicy which I like. Any of the soup dumplings are excellent and which they are known for. Lamb with cumin is another winner and can be spicy hot as well. Minced pork with rice is so flavorful and a favorite which you'll see many others ordering. That dish comes with a hard boiled, smoked egg which is interesting. Lastly, the scallion pancake, which is probably a Chinese restaurant staple, is elected to another level at Bob's . I was just there in Rockville which isn't far. But downtown Bethesda will be awesome to have. Hope that helps.

My first thought - who would name the restaurant that? Too funny.
