Resurfacing project begins on Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda

A resurfacing project has begun on Little Falls Parkway north of Dorset Avenue. Milling work has already been performed on the roadway. The work added to traffic woes this past weekend on the parkway, which has become congested at peak times since Montgomery County implemented a series of illegal road diets that were overwhelmingly opposed by the surrounding community. If you have a new car, you may want to avoid the parkway until this work is finished.

Of all the boneheaded decisions, of which MoCo officials are in the dumb idea hall of fame for, this one tops them all. The fact is that almost no one supports this which should make all area voters furious because they've done it is anyway. It's not the elected officials that are the problem but rather those who elect them. Just look at NYC. They have destroyed a beautiful drive especially this time of year. The traffic will back up along this route though they say it won't. The white poles that have been put up to line the unused bike lanes are at least removable. They never will be but at least there's the chance. This parkway will be permanently changed and for the worse. It'd love to see someone come on here and make a full throated and well thought out endorcement of this foolish and wholely unnecessary destruction of a parkway at the taxpayers expense all in the interest of bike safety which few believe is the actual and real motivation here. It's beyond absurd.

I drove roundtrip for an errand on Little Falls Parkway in the rain last night to/from Arlington Road to River Road. They've made that road treacherous and incredibly dangerous with these changes. What a disgrace.

And yet liberals bitch about a ballroom paid for by private donations so ANY future administration can hold state dinners without use of a tent. When democrats spend taxpayers dollars for a road diet nobody wants, crickets.

What road did NYC destroy?

@8:21 Over 376M of TAXPAYER dollars was spent for a bunch of renovations at the WH including a basketball court and lets not forget Legget who spent over 300K of MC TAXPAYER dollars for a private bathroom in a secure building on a secure floor in Rockville because no county executive should subject themselves to a bathroom that somebody else with secure access might use. When liberals talk about No Kings, they say Trump but should take a look in the mirror.

I would like to see a network of separated bike lanes all over the county! If you love driving your car everywhere, perhaps you should move to Olney. I bike, walk or take transit whenever I can!

Will the metalic stockyard gates remain in place?
Did they place any more 'Elrich Speed Humps' to slow down traffic?

I have heard only 1 justifications from the Parks folks: "We have a goal of building more parks...but land for parks is expensive...so we decide to build parks on land we already own." Boom. Done...oh wait, no one wants this...oh well.

That said, there are two other potential explanations: (a) Parks wants everyone to bike instead of driving, so they're willing to make driving less convenient. This is the "ends justify the means" argument. (b) They fancy that they're "creative," and are actually delusional enough to think that the "linear park" they were planning here was something on par with truly unique places like the High Line in New York or the Beltline in Atlanta (and yes, the planners did actually compare this project to both of those).

This is the kind of reply we see from people who love spending other peoples money never mind the minuscule number of people it benefits because they see it as what should be done. You don't want kings but act like one. Look up the definition of Authoritarianism and like others on the left accuse their opponents of doing exactly what they're doing.

"They've made that road treacherous and incredibly dangerous"
But now it is safe for bikers and pedestrians. . .

1:25 - I am literally exercising right through this area on Little falls parkway as we speak this morning. And it is a mess. You hit the nail on the head and are echoing something that I've said countless times here. This is anti-car no ifs ands or buts about it. They could have put a prefab steel bridge that doesn't have to support that much weight up over Little falls parkway and be done in a day. No destruction of the road. No nothing and absolutely guarantee pedestrian and cyclist safety crossing over to continue on to CCT. Trucks I believe are already restricted so it does not need to be that high of a bridge. If trucks are not currently restricted, they certainly could change that and prohibit trucks from traveling along that corridor on Little falls parkway. All of this makes zero sense and I'm sorry to say this, but it's true that elections have consequences. Congratulations on voting in County executive and the entire County council and government apparatus who does not give one flying flip about you and even if people do not want a certain thing, they do it anyway.

8:21. Can’t stick to local topics, can ya?

Does 3:55 mean the local catch & release policies inflicting havoc on unarmed law abiding citizens or the tax and spend governor which will need to make another tax increase withdrawal from his BCC ATM machine?

And dopey Evan Glass said there have been more than 425 accidents between cars and either bikers and pedestrians in the 1st 9 months of this year. I submit that's because 1 - they lull people into a false sense of security with all the 'safety' geegaws they've spent millions on, and, 2 - NOBODY WEARS REFLECTIVE CLOTHING. They need laws stating peds and cyclists MUST wear at least 100 square inches of reflective clothing. You would think people would be personally responsible for their own well being, but no, here they need to be told what to do.

Not a moment too soon, many of the newly installed striped plastic poles have become victims of hit and run.

4:13 - The whole thing is so insane. Complete and permanent fix to something that was far from broken. They say that taking out travel lanes won't impact the traffic. That's just a bald faced lie. Traffic is extremely slow on Little Falls Parkway now all the time and likely will be In perpetuity. Thanks voters
