Montgomery County cracks down on owner of vacant Bethesda properties

Montgomery County code enforcement officials have taken action on several eyesore properties in downtown Bethesda associated with the long-delayed Artena Bethesda development. Inspectors issued a violation notice to Artena Equities, LLC of Manassas, Virginia, in regard to the trash-strewn premises at 8000-8011 Wisconsin Avenue. A fine of $1000 per day was threatened if the garbage, plastic bags, bottles, food containers, and metal debris were not removed within 10 days. It appears an effort was then made to clean up the mess, although the dilapidated, boarded up site remains an eyesore and favorite haunt of vagrants and mischief makers.

Good old Comrade Elrich and his crack team at DPS. Operate an unsanctioned dump in Bethesda and it will only take us 4 years to crack down.

What's worse, the urban blight with this abandoned block or the giant, multi-use skyscraper that will replace it? Everything small and/or old will be knocked down. Charm and small town feel is fleeting. And people make nasty comments when I say you can't see the sun in places downtown Bethesda anymore.

Spare us the nightmare.

Spare us the sight.

Emptiness is the haunt, not a nasty comment. I do like the fact that it's still there and not an overdeveloped behemoth sun blocker.

The proposed building would be 16-18 stories. That’s the EXACT SAME height as the Trader Joe’s /Orange Theory building immediately adjacent. Hardly a “skyscraper”. Geez, take a Valium already.
