City Sports has officially closed at Bethesda Row. The sporting goods chain filed for bankruptcy, and its stores here and at Pike & Rose were casualties of the company's collapse. Both had sizable spaces at their respective Federal Realty developments, so it will be interesting to see what type of tenant replaces them.

Everything must go! at City Sports Bethesda Row (Photos)
With the entire City Sports chain in bankruptcy, the closing sale is underway at their Bethesda Row store on Arlington Road. Everything must go!
Although, as I've pointed out at many a past closing sale in town, these prices hardly constitute a true liquidation. Unless they will slowly increase toward the final day, savings of only 10-30% suggest much of this merchandise won't end up being sold here.
Even the fixtures and furniture are for sale. City Sports has already cleared out of its Pike & Rose location. It seems like just yesterday that I was promoting a job fair for the Bethesda Row City Sports.

City Sports clears out at Pike & Rose (Photos)
As expected, City Sports vacated its space at Pike & Rose this weekend. The athletic apparel chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and its year-old store at the Federal Realty development ended up being one of the casualties.
Given the prominence of the corner space at the current main entrance to Pike & Rose, you can be sure Federal Realty does not want this sitting empty for long. Particularly with the holiday shopping season rapidly approaching.

City Sports at Pike & Rose to close October 31 (Photos)
A closing sale is underway at City Sports, one of the largest retail tenants at Pike & Rose. The closure says more about the financial turmoil of the sporting goods chain than the health of Federal Realty's new development at Old Georgetown Road and Rockville Pike.
You don't have much more time to take advantage of the sale, however. A store employee confirmed that the Grand Park Avenue retailer will close on October 31.
