Bethesda Pool opening this weekend

The public Bethesda Pool at 6300 Hillandale Road in Bethesda will open for the Summer 2025 season this weekend, May 24, at 12:00 PM. Initial operating hours of the pool from May 24 through June 13 will be 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on weekends, and 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 3:00 - 6:00 PM on Memorial Day. From June 14 through August 15, the pool will be open 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM on weekdays, and 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM on weekends. 

Daily admission is $5 for Montgomery County residents under age 18, $7 for adults, and $6 for seniors 55 and older. A driver’s license or other proof of residency is required at the admission counter. General admission for non-residents is $20. Summer pool passes are available if you want to skip the line at the pool.

The annual laying of wreaths at the memorial fountain in Veterans Park in downtown Bethesda for Memorial Day was held yesterday. Wreaths presented by several community organizations were on display at the recently-activated fountain. Among those represented were the Bethesda Urban Partnership, the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club, and Montgomery County.

Construction sites in downtown Bethesda hung American flags from their tower cranes to mark Memorial Day. Starbucks went with a love message that seemed more geared toward the coronavirus epidemic. Clark Construction had the largest display, with a multi-floor height banner attached high on their headquarters building.

As part of the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Bethesda's Veterans Park, community organizations place wreaths at the park's memorial to the Bethesda and Chevy Chase residents who died in the wars since World War I. Monday's wreaths included those from Montgomery County government, Bethesda Urban Partnership, the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club.

Here are some photos from yesterday's wreath and flower displays at Veterans Park in downtown Bethesda. Wreaths were donated by local governments and organizations, including Montgomery County, Bethesda Urban Partnership and the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce. The memorial specifically commemorates Bethesda and Chevy Chase residents who died in conflicts beginning with World War I.

Citizens and community organizations paid tribute to Bethesda and Chevy Chase residents who lost their lives in conflicts since World War I yesterday at Veterans Park. Among those who placed wreaths at the Veterans Park memorial Monday were the Rotary Club of Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Montgomery County Government, Bethesda Urban Partnership, and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce (now known as the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce).

The memorial in Veterans Park is specific to local residents who were killed in combat.

The construction site for the future Solaire Bethesda made a patriotic statement for Memorial Day weekend, flying the Stars and Stripes from the tower crane high above the Crescent Plaza condos. This is best known as the former site of the historic Eastham's Servicenter on Wisconsin Avenue at Woodmont Avenue.

A focal point for those paying tribute to fallen heroes on Memorial Day weekend and Veterans Day each year, Veterans Park is located at the intersection of Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues in downtown Bethesda. The memorial commemorates Bethesda and Chevy Chase residents who were killed in action in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf Wars. It is also a popular public space year-round for residents, visitors and workers.

Let's hope we never have to chisel another war on that blank space, but somehow I'm not optimistic about that.
