Kenwood Sunoco reopens in Bethesda

Kenwood Sunoco has reopened at 5201 River Road in Bethesda. The gas station has been closed for fuel customers since April for maintenance work on the gas pumps and undergound fuel tank. During that time, the business remained open for auto repairs and convenience store customers.

The gas pumps at the Kenwood Sunoco service station at 5201 River Road in Bethesda have been fenced off. It appears an underground fuel tank maintenance or replacement project is getting underway. The station's Ultra Service Center repair shop, and the convenience store, are open and operating during the project. If you are a loyal Sunoco customer, the nearest station is 2450 Wisconsin Avenue NW, in the Glover Park area.

Bethesda Sunoco becomes Exxon station

Exxon has returned to Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Long associated with the legendary landmark Eastham's Exxon, the energy brand has taken over what has been Bethesda Sunoco at 8240 Wisconsin Avenue for 31 years.

They continue to have the only full-scale car wash in town. I have to admit that Sunoco has a much more colorful station design. If you swear by Sunoco gas, you can still find Sunoco at 5201 River Road and 2450 Wisconsin Avenue NW.

But this location is all about convenience if you live nearby, and now it has restored the Esso/Exxon legacy on Bethesda's main drag. Eastham's held the brand at 7100 Wisconsin Avenue from 1929 until it closed in 2012.

POLICE CATCH DOWNTOWN BETHESDA ARMED ROBBER

The alleged gun-wielding robber of Sunoco and Geste Wine in downtown Bethesda is in Montgomery County Police custody.

A tip led police to Raymond Adell Sanders, 23, of Brandywine.  Evidence connecting him to the crimes was discovered upon a search of his home, including the weapon used in the robberies, police say.

Both robberies were perpetrated on June 15.
