ArcLight Cinemas Bethesda wins Governor's Crime Prevention Award

ArcLight Cinemas at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda has won a Governor's Crime Prevention award from Gov. Larry Hogan. The cineplex was recognized for donating auditorium time on the first Wednesday of each month to the Montgomery County Police Department. Officers use the time to host a senior forum where seniors enjoy a free film, along with a presentation on tips to prevent becoming a crime victim.

Police Chief Marcus Jones and other police officials attended the award ceremony, and thanked ArcLight and the other winners. The theater's general manager was on hand to receive the award. Target's Rockville store also received an award from the governor.

Police respond to protest on Wilson Lane in Bethesda

Montgomery County police have responded in great numbers to a protest on Wilson Lane near Old Georgetown Road at this hour in downtown Bethesda. A demonstration that appears to be political in nature is being held near the Church in Bethesda. An officer said there is an "issue" at the church, and "it'll be cleared up soon."

One eyewitness told me it may involve a controversial political speaker, but that could not be immediately confirmed. Up to twenty police cars were on scene earlier this hour. This article will be updated if further details are forthcoming. For now, avoid driving in this area.

DRUG ARREST AT WALT WHITMAN HS, 4 BETHESDA THEFTS IN 2 DAYS - BETHESDA CRIME REPORT

One person was arrested for narcotics at Walt Whitman High School last Wednesday, December 5, according to crime data.

Four thefts took place in the River Road corridor over two days, as well.  Two were thefts from vehicles.  Between December 5-6, thefts occurred in the following locations:

6400 block of Goldsboro Road

4600 block of Western Avenue

7100 block of Whittier Boulevard

5900 block of Welborn Drive
