Earlier renderings posted on this site showed a much more extensive and attractive exterior remodeling of this hotel. Earlier renderings showed large new windows on the second floor prefunction space overlooking Wisconsin Avenue, and a much more modern facade on the base of the building. The large new windows would have animated that large blank facade and provided a nice view in and out of the meeting room areas. The new renderings look like they are only doing a paint job on the massive base of the building and the stupid little decorative curving canopy over the sign on Wisconsin remains.
It still looks like they intend to replace the blue tinted glass in the hotel rooms above, and paint the walls, balconies and handrails a more neural white color. That alone will help re-brand the building, but the cheesy Dryvit clad base will still look awful, even with a dark paint job.
Too bad, because in my opinion, the value engineered modifications of this hotel with still brand it’s as a lower class facility, especially with the new Marriott flagship and AC Hotel coming soon to Bethesda.
The previous renderings of the front were so much better. It's a total shame. I completely agree with what 6:03 says. By cheapening out, this hotel will still be considered lower class, especially with all the nice new competition coming.
