Construction of the new south entrance mezzanine continues at the Bethesda Metro station. What's visible to the public is the work near the tunnel entrance across from the platform. Precast concrete panels designed decades ago to be punched out for this very purpose were removed last year. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

Incorrect. The Bethesda Metro station will be fully closed between July 1 and September 1, 2026 for the construction of the new south mezzanine, which will allow access to and from the new south entrance to the Metro, and to the Purple Line. station. These new entrances will open in late 2027 or early 2028, when the Purple Line begins revenue service.
You may be correct, but the WMATA signage at the station said June 2026.

The sign sign work in preparation for the purple line through June 2026 but @2:30 is right. It’s definitely misleading and could be more accurate
Elsewhere, WMATA reports July 6 - Sept 7 (scroll down to the middle of the page), but maybe that only refers to train service, not "construction"
"From July 6-Sept. 7, 2026, there will be no Red Line trains from North Bethesda to Friendship Heights."

We can thank Metro Lead Architect Stan Allan of Harry Weese Architects for thinking way ahead designing the 'knock outs,' for what will become our coveted Purple Line.
And you can't pin any crime at 7100 Democracy Blvd on the "coveted purple line".
Being at the junction of the Red Line and the Purple Line will be transformative for Bethesda. These two lines will work together to create much more connectivity to the area. Time to start planning the extension of the Purple Line to Tysons!
Luckily, thugs can ride the J2 from Bethesda to MM where there are plenty of nice cars to go home in.
