Silk Route to replace Tia Queta in Bethesda

The building that long housed Tia Queta at 4839 Del Ray Avenue in downtown Bethesda has been sold. But it is not going to be part of any redevelopment project in the near future. A new restaurant tenant, Silk Route, has just leased the building, and is hiring staff. The new restaurant already has a liquor license hearing scheduled for April 9 at 2:30 PM.

According to Maryland real estate records, the property sold for $2,100,000. The new owner is a shell company, Nimi China, LLC. Their address is a Dover, Delaware company that provides a Delaware address to foreign entities, and is used by over 100,000 overseas businesses.

How in the world had they stayed in business in recent years? The building looks like it should be condemned. If the tenant doesn't do major work, it won't matter if it's really good food because of the curb appeal or lack thereof.

Sounds like a ChiCom front outfit

Just stop it JAC. Lots of people liked Tia Queta. You comment on everything.

Will there be spices & fine fabrics?!

Because it's an ethnic restaurant in a sanctuary county where border crossers want a taste of where they just fled from but should have stayed. #ICE!

How is that even legal? Money laundering China style.

2:07 - I didn't know there was a comment limit number one. Number two, I never said anything about the restaurant or their patrons just their building which does look derelict. It's not, and I realize that it's not, but it looks like it is.

I agree with JAC. The existing restaurant is one of the most off putting restaurants in Bethesda. No confidence that the place is food safe.

Whatever happened to the weekly report of food establishments closed for health code violations?

I have to agree with JAC. My first thought when I looked at the picture of the building--assuming it's an accurate representation of the current state of the building--was that it looks awful and that it may reflect poorly on whatever restaurant is there.

Come on, stop with the "Anonymous" reply handle, pick a name, and use it in the "Comment as:" space so that the rest of use know where you're coming from.

Yep, and at $2 mil I think it will seem very cheap in the future.
