Parking-less apartment building rebranded as The Dax in Bethesda

The Cheltenham apartments, now under construction at 4725 Cheltenham Drive in downtown Bethesda, have been rebranded as The Dax. Remarkable for containing no surface or construction parking, the building is anticipated by the developer and Montgomery County planning authorities to attract tenants who will either be car-free, or will park in the County public parking garage across the street. About 90' tall, the building will contain 100 units - 17 of which will be Moderately-Priced Dwelling Units - and no retail. The project received an $8 million subordinated loan from the Montgomery County Government Green Bank.

A crew completed a scheduled disassembly of the tower crane at the site last week, as you can see in these photos. The Dax replaces the Midas auto repair facility on this property next to a CVS Pharmacy. Community Three is the developer, Eric Colbert & Associates is the architecture firm, and the lead construction contractor is Eichberg Construction. A Q4 2026 delivery is anticipated.

Bethesda construction update - Cheltenham apartments (Photos)

Construction of Cheltenham, a new apartment building at 4725 Cheltenham Drive in downtown Bethesda, is entering its fifth month. The project is already five stories above street level, and more than halfway toward topping out on the former Midas site next to CVS Pharmacy. There isn't an official website for the building yet, for leasing purposes, that I can find. No delivery date for the 102-unit building has been announced by developer Community Three, but the project was previously forecast to take about 18 months to complete.

The Wisconsin Avenue sidewalk has reopened in front of The Charles, the new apartment tower nearing completion at 7342 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. It had been closed for about two years. The building is now leasing. First residents of The Charles are expected to move in on January 19, 2026, if all goes according to schedule.

Brick work high above Bethesda at Triangle Towers

Maintenance work is underway on the facade of the Triangle Towers apartments at 4853 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. A crew was seen on scaffolding high above the streets of the Woodmont Triangle. The contractor, Genco Masonry, just happens to be a tenant of a penthouse in the building. New building management has been making some overdue upgrades to the property in recent years.

Bethesda construction update - The Charles apartment tower (Photos)

Here's a look at the lobby entrance at The Charles, the new apartment tower at 7342 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Marble baseboard can be seen on the interior walls of the lobby. The Greystar development is now leasing. According to the Greystar website, most units will be available for move-in by January or February, with a smaller number coming online in December.

Bethesda construction update: Cheltenham apartments (Photos)

Construction is advancing quickly at the site of the Cheltenham apartments at 4725 Cheltenham Drive in downtown Bethesda. Work only began in September, and the building is already one story above street level. Of course, much time was saved by the ommision of underground parking. The first story also appears shorter in height than most other buildings, where the ground floor tends to be the tallest, to allow for the higher ceilings of the lobby and retail spaces.

The logo signage for The Charles apartment tower at 7342 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda has been installed. Last night, it was already lit up after dark. New digital screen at Windsor Bethesda apartments (Photos)

A digital screen has been installed at the lobby entrance to the Windsor Bethesda apartments at 7770 Norfolk Avenue. It is currently showing promotional images for the apartment tower. The building opened as "7770 Norfolk" (the logo for which remains on the glass lobby doors) in 2016. After developer JBG Smith sold the property, it was rebranded as Windsor Bethesda in 2021.

Fire in garage at Ellis Bethesda apartments (Photos)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a fire at the Ellis Bethesda apartment tower at 4918 St. Elmo Avenue this afternoon. Around 3:20 PM, a vehicle fire was reported in the building's underground parking garage. Firefighters located the vehicle on a lower level of the garage, and extinguished the fire. However, a significant amount of smoke remained in the garage.

MCFRS personnel remained on-scene to assist in ventilating smoke from the garage. Very little smoke entered the residential floors of the building, so there was no need to evacuate the tower, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said. No injuries were reported. As a high-rise incident, the response from MCFRS and other departments was substantial, including at least one unit from the nearby National Institutes of Health.

ATM installed at new Citibank branch in Bethesda

Workers installed the ATM machine outside of the future Citibank branch at 4760 Bethesda Avenue yesterday. The bank is filling the space that was vacated by Paul Bakery several years ago in the ground floor of the Flats at Bethesda Avenue apartments. Citibank is the new Chase and TD Bank, two other banking giants who made aggressive moves into Bethesda over the last decade. Their other new branch will be at 8101 Wisconsin Avenue, only a few blocks away from this one. Sound familiar?

By the way, did you know BlackRock now owns the Flats at Bethesda? They acquired it back in 2018. So the next time someone tells you it's only a conspiracy theory that BlackRock has been buying up a large percentage of housing across America, and are thereby helping to drive up prices...yep, they are just gaslighting you.
