Dog Haus Bethesda raising funds for Maui victims with September menu items

Dog Haus Biergarten
at 7904 Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda is providing a way for you to help victims of the Maui wildfires just by eating delicious food. Three limited-time-only menu items are being served through September 30. The Ohana Chicken Sando features a chicken tender topped with chili crisp, garlic teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo, pepper and house slaw on a King's Hawaiian bun. Mighty Moa Wings toss Dog Haus' bone-in wings in teriyaki aioli, and top them with scallions, chili crisp and spicy mayo. And the Aloha Spirit cocktail blends rum with aperol, orange curaƧao, lime and pineapple.

$1 from the purchase of each September limited time item is being donated to the Hawai’i Community Foundation in support of the Maui Strong Fund. If you would like to give more, you can donate any amount online

What is the most-popular dish ordered for delivery in downtown Bethesda?

We are now living in the golden era of food delivery. Between government dining bans and widespread uneasiness about indoor dining, more restaurant meals are being consumed by delivery and takeout than ever before. What is the menu item your downtown Bethesda neighbors are ordering the most? According to Yelp, the cheeseburger from Dog Haus Biergarten is the most popular delivery order in downtown Bethesda. Judging from the number of delivery drivers seen stopped in front of Dog Haus at any given time, that sounds pretty accurate.

Dog Haus Biergarten gets more-prominent sign

Dog Haus Biergarten has installed a more prominent lighted sign high atop their 7904 Woodmont Avenue building, which also holds the offices of their landlord on the second floor. It certainly gives the restaurant more visibility, but it has managed to draw large crowds without it for several months, one of the few success stories in a downtown Bethesda besieged by business closures.

New public art on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda (Photos)

A strange cast of characters has appeared at 7904 Woodmont Avenue. No, it's not the people waiting in line for hot dogs at Dog Haus Biergarten, or even the Montgomery County Council. It's new artwork on the side of the building that is mainly home to a trash dumpster.

Masked burglars appear to be breaking into the building, while a purple-haired heroine hovers on a star. Art may be imitating life, as Montgomery County grapples with increasing violent crime, including a 31% spike in murders last year. A triple murder last week has the county on-track for another high-homicide year in 2018, thanks to our soft-on-crime County Council. The Council may be represented by the fellow at ground level who is looking the other way as the crime is committed.

Dog Haus Biergarten opening day report + beer list (Photos)

Most of the menu at Dog Haus Biergarten, which opened yesterday at 7904 Woodmont Avenue, is available online. Missing is the beer list, which will change over time. Here is the current list, as it appeared last evening.
The restaurant was packed when I stopped by. I ordered the Sooo Cali and Chili Idol hot dogs, and the Love Boat loaded tots for a total just under $18. One large TV was showing hockey, and another provided background music via 80s music videos. Stay tuned for my review of Dog Haus Biergarten.

Sneak peek: Dog Haus Biergarten sets opening date in Bethesda (Photos)

Here's a sneak peek inside the future Dog Haus Biergarten at 7904 Woodmont Avenue. Just about everything is in place - the bar, food menu, TVs, lighting fixtures, and some tables and stools. The restaurant will open on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM.

Signs installed, lit at Dog Haus Biergarten in Bethesda (Photos)

Dog Haus Biergarten, judging from the number of messages I receive about it, is currently the most-anticipated restaurant opening for 2018 in downtown Bethesda. It has been exactly ten months today since I broke the story about it leasing the old Parva space at 7904 Woodmont Avenue.
After several false starts, work on the interior fit-out finally began to pick up in December. As of last night, permanent signage was installed and lit outside the restaurant.
The Parva was one of 14 nightspots to close after Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Riemer's so-called "nighttime economy" initiative ended up tanking the nighttime economy in downtown Bethesda. Dog Haus isn't a nightclub, but at least there will be some activity again on this block after 5:00 PM once it opens.

Construction picking up pace at Dog Haus Biergarten in Bethesda

Construction crews have resumed working at full steam inside the future Dog Haus Biergarten at 7904 Woodmont Avenue. They're also now hiring for all positions. This may be the end of the long delay since Dog Haus first confirmed they were opening a Bethesda location in April.

Dog Haus Biergarten posts Coming Soon signage (Photos)

There's still a long way to go on the build-out of the restaurant's interior, but Dog Haus Biergarten is letting passersby know they are on the way sooner rather than later at 7904 Woodmont Avenue. Now that expected competitor Bold Bite has apparently withdrawn from the hot dog category (but will still compete on burgers and craft beer), Dog Haus will by default be the big "dog" in town, when it comes to frankfurters.

Bold Bite licensing up for beer, wine as national chain competitor looms in Bethesda

Downtown Bethesda's homegrown upscale hot dog spot, Bold Bite, is preparing to take on national hot dog chain Dog Haus Biergarten. Like Bold Bite, Dog Haus also serves gourmet burgers and sausages alongside the hot dogs on its menu. But unlike Bold Bite, which is located at 4903 Cordell Avenue, Dog Haus serves craft beer and wine.

Bold Bite is aiming to remedy that this summer, before their competitor opens a few blocks away at 7904 Woodmont Avenue. The restaurant has applied for a liquor license to serve beer and wine, and will have a hearing on July 6 at 10:00 AM. While they had already planned to add beer and wine before Dog Haus announced its plans, the addition of adult beverages will be all the more advantageous to Bold Bite with a booze-purveying competitor looming.

Dog Haus Biergarten coming to Bethesda

Dog Haus Biergarten, a restaurant featuring gourmet hot dogs, hand-crafted sausages, and 100% Angus beef burgers, will open a downtown Bethesda location in the near future. They're taking over the vacant building at 7904 Woodmont Avenue, most recently home to The Parva.

You'll be able to build your own skinless, all-beef hot dog, or choose from one of their signature Haus Dogs, including the bacon-wrapped Downtown Dog, the Free Bird turkey dog, or President Trump's personal favorite, the Scott Baioli, with smoked bacon, garlic aioli, white American cheese, and caramelized onions.

Hand-crafted sausage selections will include kielbasa, currywurst, spicy Italian and chicken fontina. Signature sausages with toppings range from the pastrami and melted mozzarella on spicy Italian "The Fonz," to the even spicier "Another Night in Bangkok," featuring Thai peanut sauce, Haus Slaw, and crushed peanuts atop a spicy Thai currywurst link.

Burger choices include The Freiburger, and The Hangover. Their beef patties are a proprietary grind of chuck and brisket. The retro menu item names extend to the side options, such as The Love Boat, which is your choice of fries or tots, topped with Haus Chili and Haus Slaw.

Dog Haus Biergarten, true to its name, will offer a rotating selection of local craft brews on tap. Other beverage choices will include wine, shakes, floats and soft drinks.

The Parva building has been vacant since the lounge closed in January 2016, one of 10 nightspots to close in downtown Bethesda since Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Riemer's so-called "nighttime economy" initiative ended up wiping out a large chunk of nightlife. Neighbors who complained about the loud music of The Parva in the night will be delighted that the new tenant is going in a restaurant direction, as opposed to being a nightclub.

Dog Haus will compete with the homegrown Bold Bite, which is moving to a new location at Cordell and Norfolk Avenue next week. This will be the first Dog Haus Biergarten east of Colorado, and is part of a major expansion plan for the chain.
