Kneipp closes at Montgomery Mall, EJJI Ramen reopens

Kneipp, a German retailer of natural, vegan bath and body products, has closed at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The shop was the latest victim of the moribund Montgomery County economy, which has suffered a net loss of over 2100 retail jobs since 2000, according to the Maryland Retailers Association. Kneipp's storefront is now blacked out, but inside it has been cleared out.

Another closure at the mall earlier this week was temporary. EJJI Ramen was closed at the beginning of the week. But the company, which has another location in Baltimore, says they had to close due to a mechanical problem. EJJI Ramen is now open again in the Dining Terrace.

Ejji Ramen opens at Westfield Montgomery Mall (Photos + Menu)

Ejji Ramen has opened in the Dining Terrace at Westfield Montgomery Mall. I had expected a bit more fanfare, given the major PR efforts made by competitor JINYA Ramen Bar when it opened this summer at Pike & Rose. This is Ejji's second location; their original restaurant is in Baltimore.
In addition to the ramen-wrapped hot dog on the appetizer menu, other unique offerings include Ramune Japanese soda - original or strawberry - and Asarasi Tree Water on the beverage menu. Ejji seems to be doing well judging from customer traffic this weekend, and the fact that the Special Bun was sold out for the day.

EJJI Ramen to open at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Just days after JINYA Ramen Bar opened at Pike & Rose, EJJI Ramen has announced it will open a Bethesda location at nearby Westfield Montgomery Mall. Whereas JINYA offers a more straightforward Japanese menu, EJJI also features menu items from other Asian countries alongside the ramen. EJJI is not the only Asian eatery coming to the Dining Terrace here; Poke Papa announced in a press release it, too, is on the way to the mall.

In other mall news, VANS will reopen on Sunday, August 12, after a remodeling. Sports Nation also appears ready to open for the first time. Its space is now well-stocked with NFL jerseys for the upcoming season. Time to stock up, as the Redskins begin their journey to Super Bowl LIII.
