Kitchen fire at Flats at 8300 apartments in Bethesda (Video + Photos)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a fire at the Flats at 8300 apartment building at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda just after 10:00 PM Monday night, July 24, 2023. The fire started on a stovetop in an apartment kitchen on the third floor. Personnel from Station 6 in Bethesda with Truck 706 and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad were among those responding. The building was partially evacuated, with residents watching from nearby sidewalks.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said that the building's sprinkler system had already extinguished the small fire by the time firefighters got into the apartment. Firefighters remained on-scene to exhaust smoke from the building.

Harris Teeter opens in Bethesda (Photos)

Harris Teeter opened yesterday in the Flats at 8300 luxury apartments, at the corner of Battery Lane and Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. There were many special offers for customers on the first day, and feedback from those who ventured into the store was overwhelmingly positive. Unless you arrive via walking or bicycle, your visit will likely begin with drive down into the steep garage below the building.

Reserved spaces for
military veterans near
the door are a nice touch

No Escalades allowed
in this space
If you ordered your
groceries online, pull
into the Express Lane
for pick-up
Once inside, pick up a coffee at the in-store Starbucks.

Now it's time to start shopping!

Now it's time to check out. I'll have to test their self-checkouts, and report to you if they are better than the ones at Giant and CVS (not exactly a high bar).

The new Harris Teeter, located in the Flats at 8300 luxury apartments at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue, will open on August 24, 2016. A pharmacy and Starbucks will be located inside the store, the first Harris Teeter to open in Bethesda (they do have one in North Bethesda's Pike District). Starbucks fans will like to scroll down to see the first supplies being loaded in for the in-store Starbucks.

Signage designating aisles, "farmers market" and salad bar - among many other categories - is being installed at the future Harris Teeter at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue. The first merchandise is being rolled into the store, as well. Prominent among the boxes are several containing New York Texas Toast Croutons.
