1 NB LANE OF WISCONSIN AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY, AUGUST 9

Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner reports that, starting today, one northbound lane of Wisconsin Avenue (MD 355) will be closed between Dorset Avenue and Grafton Street in Chevy Chase. The lane will remain closed - at all hours - through Saturday, August 9, for utility work by Verizon.

Councilmember Berliner suggests factoring that into your commuting time, delays those who have sat in jams during previous work further north on Wisconsin will no doubt find familiar.

VERIZON RETURNS! R LANE OF NB WISCONSIN AVE. CLOSED NEAR BETHESDA AVENUE (PHOTOS)

Verizon utility work has closed the right lane of northbound MD 355 in downtown Bethesda near Bethesda Avenue and Willow Lane.

The work began just a little while ago.

R SB LANE OF OLD GEORGETOWN ROAD CLOSED AT MOORLAND IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

I received an email from Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner's office today, regarding the Verizon utility work that has inconvenienced drivers in downtown Bethesda over the last 2 1/2 weeks. It cc'd a message from a MD/DC Government Affairs representative of Verizon, which stated, "all of the work was completed Monday, May 20."

But the work continues tonight, and a lane of Old Georgetown Road is closed at Moorland.

I don't question the need to do the work. I don't think any of us would want to be without phone/FIOS/etc. service if it was out.

But there could be an improvement in community outreach. According to the email, Verizon is only obligated to contact the owner of the road in question. And in the case of Old Georgetown and Wisconsin, they are both state roads.

If the message could be relayed by Verizon or the state to Ken Hartman at the Bethesda Regional Services Center, or the county DOT, they would then be able to send out emails to the community. For long-term repairs like this, the message should be passed to Dr. Gridlock, who posts such roadwork in his Washington Post column on Sundays.

OOPS...THEY DID IT AGAIN: VERIZON STILL WORKING ON WISCONSIN AVENUE TONIGHT (PHOTOS)

Despite claiming a second time they were finished, Verizon has crews out again on Wisconsin Avenue tonight.

There is one right lane closed on the northbound side of Wisconsin, in front of the Montgomery Farm Women's Collective Market.

VERIZON TENT CITY ON WISCONSIN AVENUE TONIGHT (PHOTO)

There's a small tent city on northbound Wisconsin Avenue north of Elm Street, as Verizon utility work continues. And a lane closure again southbound near Bethesda Metro Center.

BETHESDA DRIVERS SLAMMED BY VERIZON AGAIN (PHOTOS)

Remember the days of landline telephones, when customers would report having been "slammed" by one phone company or another?

Drivers may be reminded in downtown Bethesda, as extensive Verizon utility work continues to close lanes near the 2nd District police station, and the Bethesda Metro Center.

Verizon has not informed the public about the scope and nature of this work.

It has served to show what the devastating effect of taking 2 lanes of 355 for use by Bus Rapid Transit would be.

Even at off-peak hours, there have beens jams and delays as a result of the work.

VERIZON WORK NOW ON BOTH SIDES OF WISCONSIN (PHOTOS)

While models work it on the runway at The Front Row at Bethesda Row, Verizon crews are working it on both sides of Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda.

Lane closures extend from Air Rights to Waverly northbound, and in front of Bethesda Metro Center southbound (at East-West Highway).

2 LANES CLOSED ON NB WISCONSIN AVENUE IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

Verizon crews have now closed 2 northbound lanes of Wisconsin Avenue between Montgomery Avenue and East-West Highway in Bethesda.

A lane of westbound East-West Highway is also closed approaching the Bethesda Metro Center.

The closures are related to ongoing utility work.  These traffic jams are a good test run for what Wisconsin will be like if Montgomery County BRT supporters' nefarious plan to seize 2 lanes of the road for buses succeeds.

NIGHTTIME UTILITY WORK IN DOWNTOWN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

Last night, Verizon appeared to be doing some major work in downtown Bethesda, requiring digging and lane closures.

The right lane of northbound Wisconsin Avenue was closed between Montgomery Avenue and East-West Highway. And one lane of Montgomery Lane was closed between Tommy Joe's and the 2nd District police station.

Just something to be aware of when driving in that area, in case they haven't finished the work yet.
