Ascend Institute of Martial Arts replaces On the Mat Sports in Bethesda (Photo)

6936 Wisconsin Avenue has been home to schools of the martial arts for many years, but under several different owners and names. Now the space is branded as the Ascend Institute of Martial Arts. The facility is offering classes in Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts, as well as in general fitness.

Classes are available for both kids and adults. They are currently offering a special for the month of August, with free Jiu-Jitsu classes. You can sign up online, or call 1-844-9-ASCEND.

The martial arts/kickboxing studio coming to 4940 St. Elmo Avenue I reported on yesterday now has a name - and a sign: Bethesda Boxing & Kickboxing Academy.

NEW MARTIAL ARTS/KICKBOXING GYM OPENING IN DOWNTOWN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

Once a shoe store, and then promised to be a crab shack, 4940 St. Elmo Avenue has now been leased by a new martial arts gym offering kickboxing, jiu jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing and personal training. The gym will also offer a "morning boot camp," according to signage that appeared suddenly on the shop's windows. This space has been vacant for about 2 years.

GAMMA MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY INSTALLS SIGNS AT BETHESDA ROW (PHOTOS)

Gamma Martial Arts Academy has installed signage outside of their location at 4833 Bethesda Avenue, at Bethesda Row. The school offers martial arts classes for all ages, and also hosts birthday parties.
