The sign is up at the new location of Hannah's Barber Shop at 4825 Del Ray Avenue in downtown Bethesda. It is moving here from 8007 Norfolk Avenue due to the construction of a condo building on its original site.

Plane Jane Salon now open at new Bethesda location

Plane Jane Salon has relocated to its new space at 4864 Rugby Avenue, in the new Gallery Bethesda II apartment tower. Their new hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-9:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM-6:00 PM, and Sunday 9:00 AM-6:00 PM. Clients must book their appointments in advance online, and sign a waiver form.

Hair Cuttery sets reopening date at Bethesda Row

Those self-inflicted quarantine haircuts may be coming to an end for the daring among us. Hair Cuttery at 4818 Bethesda Avenue has been shuttered for the coronavirus lockdown, but are now sharpening their scissors for a reopening later this week.

The shop will reopen this Thursday, June 18, 2020. They'll start taking reservations tomorrow, June 16. Call 301-656-0760 to schedule an appointment. Hair Cuttery's new hours at Bethesda Row will be 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.

Plane Jane Salon to move to Gallery Bethesda II

Plane Jane Salon is currently temporarily closed after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared hair salons and many other businesses "non-essential" as part of his efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus. But they will be relocating in downtown Bethesda, possibly as soon as when they reopen, depending when the state declares an end to social distancing.

The salon is currently located at 8005 Norfolk Avenue. Their new location will be in the ground floor of the new Gallery Bethesda II apartment tower, at 4864 Rugby Avenue.

The permanent sign has been installed at Madison Reed Color Bar, opening soon on Woodmont Avenue at Bethesda Row. A hair coloring salon, Madison Reed will be located next to Mussel Bar.

Madison Reed Color Bar coming to Bethesda Row

Madison Reed Color Bar is opening at Bethesda Row. The coloring salon's business niche is the use of hair color that is free of ammonia, parabens, resorcinol, PPD, phthalates, and gluten. Founder Amy Errett named the chain after her daughter. Madison Reed will be next to Mussel Bar on Woodmont Avenue.

House of Alexis closes at Bradley Shopping Center

House of Alexis has closed at the Bradley Shopping Center in Bethesda. The hair salon and boutique has been totally cleared out. However, the staff is continuing on, joining the team at Samantha James Salon (a.k.a. SJ Salon) in Potomac. SJ Salon is located in a house just south of Potomac Village at 9906 River Road.

Drybar to open at Pike & Rose

Drybar will round out the retail spaces in the ground floor of the Canopy by Hilton hotel at Pike & Rose. The popular blowout salon will open at 11861 Grand Park Avenue next spring. Their 1705 SF space will be next to Sunday Morning Bakehouse and UNIQLO.

This will be only the fifth Drybar in the D.C. area. Drybar pioneered the trend of having adult beverages at salons, which required an update to Montgomery County and Maryland's archaic liquor laws, which became known as "the Drybar bill" when it passed in Annapolis.

Invisalign, K&I Salon open at Westfield Montgomery Mall (Photos)

Two new businesses have opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Invisalign is not an orthodontist office; it is a showroom where you can learn more about the Invisalign teeth-straightening line of products, see a computer image of how you would benefit from the technology, and then be referred to a local Invisalign provider for treatment. Invisalign is located on Level 2.

Also opening is K&I Salon, the newest location of a chain found at a number of other local malls. They offer full hair salon services, as well as manicures and pedicures, threading and waxing services, beauty and skin care consulting, and makeup application.

Joliena & Jenny Styling Barber opening soon on Del Ray Avenue

Joliena & Jenny Stying Barber is coming soon to 4912 Del Ray Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Master barbers Joliena & Jenny may be able to fill the void with the recent closure of 18|8 Fine Men's Salon on Wisconsin Avenue. The shop's interior fit-out is currently underway.

CoCo La Rue closes, K&I Salon to open at Westfield Montgomery Mall (Photos)

One salon has closed at Westfield Montgomery Mall, and a second has announced it will arrive this Spring. Hair extension salon CoCo La Rue has cleared out after a short run at the mall.

Meanwhile, K&I Salon has posted Coming Soon signage, touting a Spring 2018 opening. They will be located next to T-Mobile on Level 1. In other mall news, expected arrival Altar'd State has posted signage announcing a March 2018 target opening date.

KEO Designs Hair Salon & Spa moving in Bethesda (Photos)

KEO Designs Hair Salon & Spa is relocating from Montgomery Lane to a new space at 4811 Cheltenham Drive (which Google Maps calls Norfolk Avenue on the map, be forewarned), across from the Tastee Diner. This used to be home to Golden Crown Hair Design. Workers were painting last evening.

One downtown Bethesda hair salon closes, another opens

Golden Crown Hair Design on Norfolk Avenue has closed, and the space is cleared out. A new hair salon is just getting started over at the Peripoint Building at 5001 Wilson Lane. I believe Salon Gerard has already been taking clients, but the sign was installed Tuesday evening. They finally took down the signs for Soup Up, which closed in that space quite a while back.

Acqua Nails to offer haircuts Thursdays during Spiro's Barber Shop closure in Bethesda

If you live near the Shops at Sumner Place, and don't want to travel out of the neighborhood for a haircut while Spiro's Styling and Barber Shop is temporarily closed, you're in luck (and likely in need of a haircut, now that Spiro's has been closed since January). Acqua Nails in the same shopping center has announced barber Joliena will offer haircuts out of their salon on Thursdays only, until Spiro's reopens. Spiro Hallas passed away in late December, but there is some hope the barbershop will reopen in the near future.

Blue Bell Hair Salon & Spa opening in Lionsgate condo building in Bethesda (Photos)

This seems to be the week of beauty salon reveals in downtown Bethesda. First up on Monday was Phenix Salon at 4500 East-West Highway.

Now the second mystery salon in the ground floor of the Lionsgate condo building at 7710 Woodmont Avenue is known. Blue Bell Hair Salon & Spa is taking over the space that previously held a lingerie boutique.

There is no Facebook page or website yet for the salon.

PR FRESH LOOK STORE COMING TO PIKE & ROSE

If stylish, upscale hair salons are a must for today's luxury mixed-use communities, Pike & Rose has found one in PR Fresh Look. A concept by salon chain PR at Partners, with a flagship store in Tysons Corner, the PR Fresh Look store will offer blowouts and hairstyles tailored to the individual customer. Potential clients will be able to read bios of each stylist online, and those stylists will also be able to teach them tips and tricks for pulling off salon styles at home.

PR Fresh Look will be located by Del Frisco's Grille on Grand Park Avenue, the same block that will hold the iPic Theaters cineplex.

The salon will open this November.
