The on-again, off-again run of the award-winning Faryab Afghan Cuisine at 4917 Cordell Avenue could be ending. A for sale sign appeared in the front window yesterday. The building has been advertised as available for lease at times in the past.

Faryab restaurant available for lease
The building currently occupied by Faryab, a popular and well-reviewed Afghan restaurant in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle, has been put on the market for lease. Faryab is still fully open for business at last check, and there is no public indication that it is closing yet.
But an online listing is at least testing the market for potential alternative tenants. The storefront is located in a prime spot at 4917 Cordell Avenue.

Faryab to reopen in Bethesda (Menu+photos)
Faryab Afghan Cuisine, the restaurant at 4930 Cordell Avenue that closed in August 2015, is planning a comeback. The owner says the restaurant should reopen the first week of February. Expect the same menu with a few tweaks. Speaking of which, here it is:
During its initial run, Faryab was well-reviewed, and a perennial resident on Washingtonian magazine's Top 100 Restaurants list. They are currently hiring waitstaff for the reopening.

Steamers closes forever in Bethesda; Sorrento closed until Thursday; Faryab closed until? (Photos)
Steamers, a longstanding seafood restaurant at 4820 Auburn Avenue, has closed. The closure was announced in a sign posted outside of the restaurant. In the message, the restaurant's owners thanked patrons for 11 years of business. Signage has been removed from the building's exterior.
Meanwhile, Trattoria Sorrento is temporarily closed until Thursday this week (August 20) on Cordell Avenue. Its neighbor, Faryab, remains closed for both a staff vacation and planned renovations. Reportedly, they are going to make some interior changes and roof repairs. They plan to reopen in two weeks or less, one source reports, but no official reopening date has been announced.

Faryab temporarily closed, reopening date not given in Bethesda (Photos)
Longtime readers, or veteran downtown Bethesda diners, may recall that popular Afghan restaurant Faryab closes briefly every summer. As a small operation, the break allows staff to take a vacation.
A notable change this summer, however, is the lack of a clear reopening date. Three dots have taken their place on the sign this year. Perhaps it is because renovations are part of the closure this time?

FARYAB AFGHAN CUISINE TEMPORARILY CLOSED IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)
Faryab Afghan Cuisine is taking a summer vacation break through August 20. The Cordell Avenue restaurant will reopen for regular hours on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Much like the brief closure of Peter's Carryout last week, this was scheduled in advance to give the owners/staff some time off.
