Truck driver ignores clearance warning at Bethesda apartment tower

There's a whole genre of video online that consists of trucks driven by overconfident or distracted operators crashing into overpasses despite signage warning them in advance. It's too bad one of those omnipresent camerapersons wasn't on hand to document what Roscoe P. Coltrane would surely have described as "a horrendous crash" at Triangle Towers at 4835 Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda last week. Despite the large sign warning of an 8' clearance on the porte-cochère ahead, well, the driver apparently just decided to go for it. Doh! In addition to the masonry damage, the driveway had to be sealed off with warning tape. What would Damian Einstein say?

Good one. Or Weasel who still lives there. Can we get an immigration status on that driver? Because in mostly deep Dem areas, illegal aliens, who cannot speak or read English, and who have had little to no experience driving a big rig, are being granted CDL. It's gosh darn dangerous and flat out dumb.

I don't think this was the first time for such an event.

Exactly, the Chinaman bus crash driver for example, you don't even need to be on I-95 South but rather right here in downtown sanctuary city known to illegals as "Bethesda." -- Btw, protect Weasel (as I try to on those Friday Night Concert Series shows) at all costs, he's a local & national treasure.

"Can we get an immigration status on that driver"?
What a clown!!
How have so many straightforward, nonpartisan recent posts on this blog generated cesspools of "demographic"-related speculations and accusations?

Or maybe they were subject to the failures of the unfunded mandates under Bush's 'Every Child Left Behind' (sic) ...

To quote W himself: "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

Robert, surprised you missed the announcement on Friday about the CPSC moving from downtown Bethesda (where it has been since 1993) to the Capital Hill area of DC by October. It was big news that was buried over a holiday weekend. Need your analysis as its impact on the Purple line, for which the commuting of CPSC people from Silver Spring was a major justification.

"Big rig"??
We're obviously not talking about an 18-wheeler in this situation.
U-Haul's cargo vans are about 8 feet tall, and probably some commercial vans are taller than that.
But no, you jumped right to ranting about "illegal aliens."

Not seeing any masonry damage, just a chunk of synthetic stucco has been damaged, otherwise known as Dryvit

11:56, we will likely never know what the status and training of this CDL driver is but its just too darn bad we now have to wonder what with the States issuing otherwise bogus CDLs and even regular driver licenses. Im just happy they might be insured somehow.

4:32 - In a sanctuary county and state who recently doubled down on protecting illegals from ICE? You're darn right I did.

JAC said...

12:49 - That's not a fair question? Interesting you think not.

12:48 - Dumbest thing ever. Just let illegals drive trucks. Beyond belief. I see Weasel walking around town from time to time. He never learned to drive. I actually asked Sirius XM First Wave channel if they ever considered bringing him on. They were well aware of his work. Too bad they haven't added him to their on-air lineup.

"Chinaman," 12:48???
The comment area of this blog is becoming a swamp.

"Or Weasel who still lives there." WTF does that mean,? Rcist comment as well.

7:54 - Clearly not from around here.

12:48 is not ashamed of his prejudice. Perhaps he should be.

I see very little disparaging about saying 'Chinaman.' Sure it could be 'man from China,' and it definitely could be a whole lot worse. Maybe its more about the offended reader invoking the racism rather than the poster. I remember when "Jew" carried a similar perjorative connotation, 'Black,' as well.

Merriam-Webster, m-w.com, indicates that "Chinaman" is "often offensive."
That word was used a lot in the early 1970s tv show, "Kung Fu," but--even if it could be argued that that reflected the language historically used in setting of the series (early 1870s, in the American West)--it was pretty clearly intended to be pejorative.
By the way, "He's a Black," or "She's a Jew" isn't necessarily inoffensive, either.

10:12 you undid your argument with your last sentence. Its really about how it's perceived, now with "microaggression" benign intent means nothing. Cry elsewhere.

Who will protect us from "the protectors"?

Not at all, 11:47!
"He's Black" or "She's Jewish" are certainly innocuous--but, "He's a Black" or "She's a Jew" are what Archie Bunker would say.
He'd feel right at home with some of the comments here.

Ok, sorry... I used have used "Killer Asian" instead.

Certainly not inaccurate, no?
