Luke's Lobster has permanently closed at 7129 Bethesda Lane at Bethesda Row. Signage has been stripped from the storefront, and the interior appears cleared out. It's the end of an era, as Luke's was one of the highest profile additions of the previous decade at the Federal Realty development. Luke's was also one of the biggest names in the lobster roll fad, which never actually ended, but became such a popular item that it wound up on many restaurant menus beyond the trucks and eateries that only sold those mayonnaise and butter drenched sandwiches. Perhaps the ubiquity of the lobster roll cut into demand for the OG specialty shops.

Free lobster roll to first 15 wearing Canadian tuxedos at Luke's Lobster today
If you are one of the first 15 people in line wearing a Canadian tuxedo when Luke's Lobster opens at 11:00 AM this morning, you'll win a free lobster roll. What is a Canadian tuxedo? We turn to the official contest rules for the official answer: "a denim top and denim bottom in any color, provided that both items are the same color (a “Canadian Tuxedo”). For the avoidance of doubt each Entrant will be required to wear both a denim top and denim bottom under these Official Rules; a one-piece denim outfit (such as a dress or jumper) will not make Entrant eligible."
Luke's Lobster is located at 7129 Bethesda Lane at Bethesda Row, but the contest is being held at all participating Luke's Lobster locations.

Bethesda construction update: Luke's Lobster expansion (Photos)
A lot of work had been done outside, and with glass installation, as of my last update from the expansion of Luke's Lobster at Bethesda Row. Now the interior has been worked on, and the new indoor seating is in place. That was the main reason for the expansion out to Elm Street, as well as the benefit of increased visibility from pedestrian and auto traffic along there.

Bethesda construction update: Luke's Lobster at Bethesda Row (Photos)
You can now see into the expanded portion of the Luke's Lobster space on Bethesda Lane. Glass was installed in the window punch outs yesterday. A new awning was installed on Elm Street, as well. This used to be an M&T Bank ATM machine, if you recall.

Expansion begins at Luke's Lobster at Bethesda Row (Photos)
Luke's Lobster, as I reported in late May, is expanding its Bethesda Lane restaurant space to add more customer seating indoors. The expansion, which will bring the space out to Elm Street, where an M&T Bank ATM used to be, will also increase the popular lobster roll eatery's visibility to pedestrian and automobile traffic along that busy road.
That construction project is now underway, but they are still open during the expansion.

Luke's Lobster to expand at Bethesda Row (Photos)
Luke's Lobster fans would probably agree the only downside at the popular Bethesda Lane eatery is the lack of indoor seating space when the weather isn't so nice for al fresco dining. That will change in a few months.
In late summer, Luke's will expand its space out to Elm Street, where there used to be an M&T Bank ATM if you recall. This will not only increase the indoor seating area, but will also raise the visibility of Luke's Lobster, to those passing on Elm Street.
The project will take a few weeks to complete, a spokesperson for Luke's Lobster said yesterday.
