Food Wine & Co. contents being auctioned off in Bethesda

Everything must go! Everything inside Food, Wine & Co. in the Apex Building at 7272 Wisconsin Avenue is up for auction. The highly-rated restaurant closed a week ago, citing Purple Line construction as the cause of the closure. An auction listing calls this a complete liquidation of the restaurant's contents after the establishment "lost its lease."

Up for grabs are a Bakers Pride FC-516 Il Forno Classico brick lined gas deck oven, and a Bakers Pride DS-805 Super deck single deck gas pizza oven (the latter with a cracked stone, the listing notes), each worth around $30,000 new.

What else? A Vulcan fryer, a KitchenAid mixer that looks much like one you'd find on your kitchen counter, walk-in beer cooler, wine refrigerator, and an LG flatscreen TV.

The preview for the auction will be held on Monday, June 13, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the actual auction following the next day at 1:00 PM.

Food, Wine & Co. closed yesterday in the Apex Building at 7272 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. The owners said the closure was due to the construction of the Purple Line, and future demolition of the Apex Building. Their other area dining ventures, Fish Taco and Don Pollo, remain open. Food, Wine & Co. had been in business for six years.

Developer Carr Properties has a plan to redevelop the Apex Building site, while MTA contractors build the Purple Line light rail station beneath it over the next several years. The new development will accommodate a larger rail station sought by Montgomery County and MTA engineers and planners.

Food Wine & Co. has new lunch and dinner menus for fall. Don't worry, Tater Tots and the Prime Angus Truffle Burger are still on there. But new, fall-themed dishes include Butternut Squash Soup with clove yogurt, curry and pumpkin seed; and Pumpkin Risotto. Ready for dessert? How about a house-made Pumpkin-Spiced Cheesecake with pecan praline, salted caramel popcorn and rum raisin ice cream? The restaurant is located in the Apex Building, near the Regal Cinemas Bethesda 10.
