Kenwood Club fireworks 2026

Expectations have been set super-high for the official July 4 fireworks in Washington, D.C. this year, which are expected to set records for length of display and number of fireworks deployed. We shall see. But the best fireworks in the DMV have historically been those of the Kenwood Golf and Country Club at 5601 River Road in Bethesda (Chevy Chase, officially). The club and its property are private, so don't trespass on their property. But the fireworks can be seen from nearby church and retail parking lots such as the Fourth Presbyterian Church, which has been the most-popular viewing spot in past years, as it is directly across the street. If you are lucky enough to have a backyard in line-of-sight to the club, or an apartment or condo facing the club's direction, it's also a chance to play Jay Gatsby and have a spectacular fireworks display to cap off your Independence Day party.

This year's Kenwood fireworks are scheduled for tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Expect the show to start around 9:30 PM. The fireworks will be very loud, so you may want to consider having hearing protection like earplugs on hand. If you are in the vicinity and have a dog, make sure the animal is indoors before the show starts. Should inclement weather occur, Kenwood has scheduled a rain date for July 1, 2026.

Kenwood Club fireworks 2025

We're less than a week away from the best fireworks display in the Washington, D.C. area, the one put on by the Kenwood Golf and Country Club at 5601 River Road in Bethesda.

This year's Kenwood fireworks are scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Expect the show to start around 9:30 PM. The fireworks will be very loud, so you may want to consider having hearing protection like earplugs on hand. If you are in the vicinity and have a dog, make sure the animal is indoors before the show starts. Should inclement weather occur, Kenwood has scheduled a rain date for July 2, 2025.

Kenwood Club golf course reopens after storm cleanup

The golf course at the Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda reopened yesterday, after damage and debris caused by a thunderstorm Monday night required it to temporarily close. Fallen trees and branches had to be sawed and removed. Regularly-scheduled maintenance that couldn't be performed until the course was cleared also had to be completed once the cleanup was finished. The storm caused many trees to fall across the area, including not far from the club on Whittier Boulevard, and many power outages.

Kenwood Club fireworks set for June 29, 2023

NOTE: Due to the poor air quality in the area, there is a chance fireworks displays and other outdoor events may be canceled or postponed in the coming days. Please call the municipality or organization in question to confirm displays are going forward if there is an air quality warning in effect that evening.

The best fireworks display in the D.C. area will once again be presented by the Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda (although the club is technically in Chevy Chase). This year's Kenwood fireworks will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 (in case of inclement weather, the rain date will be June 30). The event at the private club is for members only, so do not trespass on club property. However, the fireworks are visible some distance around the club, and usually begin sometime between 9:00 and 9:30 PM.

You don't have to be part of the landed class to partake of the fireworks. A popular viewing spot is in the church parking lot across River Road from the club, where those-in-the-know converge on foot or by car. Earplugs are strongly recommended for children, or those with sensitive ears.

Other private fireworks displays in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area this year include:

Bethesda Country Club - June 25, 9:00 PM

Columbia Country Club - June 27, 9:00 PM

Chevy Chase Club - July 3, 9:30 PM

Congressional Country Club - July 4, 9:00 PM

A solar panel on the roof of the fitness center was on fire, and there was no extension to the roof or interior of the building. The cause of the fire has not yet been declared. Kenwood Club fireworks 2022 - the DC area's best fireworks are in Bethesda!

The best fireworks display in the D.C. area will once again be presented by the Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda (although the club is technically in Chevy Chase). This year's Kenwood fireworks will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022; rain date is July 1. The event at the private club is for members only, so do not trespass on club property. However, the fireworks are visible some distance around the club, and usually begin after 9:00 PM.

Nearby residents - and those nearby or in downtown Bethesda lucky enough to have apartment balconies facing the club - know the drill by now: Plan a backyard party modest or grand, and then gain the cachet of The Great Gatsby himself when an expensive fireworks display suddenly erupts in the sky above, and caps off the evening.

Savvy Bethesdans (a.k.a. readers of this blog) who aren't part of the landed class can still partake of the fireworks - if they know where to go. The smart spot is in the church parking lot across River Road from the club, where those-in-the-know converge on foot or by car. Earplugs are strongly recommended for children, or those with sensitive ears.

I haven't bothered to go into D.C. or out to Rockville for fireworks since Kenwood began their fireworks displays over a decade ago. The Kenwood display is superior, and gets better each year, and it certainly did again in 2022.

Impress your friends, avoid getting your pocket picked or purse snatched on the National Mall, and take in the best fireworks in the D.C. area. Gracious toast and "I'm Gatsby" line are optional.

Kenwood Club barricades driveway (Photos)

The Kenwood Golf and Country Club at 5601 River Road has barricaded its main entrance driveway with barrels. A sign standing between barrels directs all mail and packages to be dropped off at the main clubhouse.

Kenwood fireworks 2019 set for Sunday, June 30

The best fireworks display in the D.C. area will once again be presented by the Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda. This year's Kenwood fireworks will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019. The event at the private club is for members only. However, the fireworks are visible some distance around the club, and usually begin after 9:00 PM. Rain date this year for Kenwood is July 1.

I haven't bothered to go into D.C. or out to Rockville for fireworks since Kenwood began their fireworks displays over a decade ago. The Kenwood display is superior, and gets better each year, and it certainly did again in 2018.

Impress your friends, avoid getting your pocket picked or purse snatched downtown (or by the crooked Montgomery County Council!), and take in the best fireworks in the D.C. area. Gracious toast and "I'm Gatsby" line are optional.

Other 2019 fireworks scheduled in the area include the Chevy Chase Club on July 3, and Congressional Country Club on July 4.

KENWOOD FIREWORKS 2014 - THE BEST FIREWORKS IN DC ARE IN BETHESDA

The best Independence Day fireworks in the DC area aren't in DC - they're in Bethesda. I hear that this year's Fourth of July fireworks at the Kenwood Golf and Country Club on River Road are currently scheduled for Sunday, June 29. That is several days before July 4th.

Kenwood's fireworks - like the club - are not open to the general public. However, they are visible from several nearby parking lots. And residents of nearby homes, or apartment buildings in the Westbard and downtown Bethesda area which face the right direction, often plan parties around this explosive fireworks show, which is like a private fireworks display for free.

But not last year. Before you start planning, let's not forget that Kenwood pulled the rug out from under local fans of the fireworks last year, canceling the show due to poor weather. And then never rescheduled. Let's hope for better weather this year.

THE DC AREA'S BEST FIREWORKS DISPLAY IS IN... BETHESDA - IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO!

Pity your friends who are going to stuff themselves into Metro subway cars like sardines for a lackluster fireworks display on the Mall Wednesday night.

Fortunately, you are a smart person who reads this blog, and you're about to be let in on another of the many secrets of Bethesda:  Fireworks at the Kenwood Club on River Road.

For the last decade or so, smart, wealthy and frugal residents of neighborhoods near "The Club" have followed a simple formula to wow friends and co-workers, while saving a lot of money in the process:  Find out when the Kenwood fireworks are.  Go to Giant or Whole Foods for grilling, All-American and/or pretentious food items, add a stop at Talbert's or the county liquor emporium in the Westwood Shopping Center if it's an adults-only celebration, and invite guests.

Finally, at about 9:15 PM, stand by for a loud and impressive fireworks display, that beats just about any other display in the area.

Some of these parties are held in backyards near the club.  Some are held in apartments whose occupants are lucky enough to face the direction of the Kenwood Club, either on higher floors in downtown Bethesda, or better yet, in Westwood Tower or Park Bethesda on Westbard Avenue, or in the aptly-named condos of The Kenwood.

But what if you aren't part of the landed class?  Do what so many in Bethesda do so well - fake it!

Park in a nearby parking lot.  The most popular, with the best view, is at the church right across River Road from the club.  Many families walk there to get a better view.  Just remember, if you bring small kids, the fireworks are L-O-U-D and you may want to pack earplugs.

This year's display will be on July 4th, the first time I can recall that happening in the history of Kenwood.

No long drives.  No overpriced Metro fare.  High-quality, professional Fourth of July fireworks in Bethesda.  It's like being a tycoon and having your own fireworks display!

You're welcome!
