Momo Chicken closes in Bethesda

Momo Chicken & Grill
has closed at 4862 Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda. A sign in the front window displays a farewell message to customers. Momo began life as a BonChon-like Korean fried chicken concept from New York City called Turntable: Mad for Chicken in 2014. By the time construction was complete and the doors were to open, it had adopted a new name, Momo Chicken + Jazz. After several years of lots of chicken but not so much jazz, the name switched again to the anodyne Momo Chicken & Grill.

The restaurant appears to be the latest victim of the moribund Montgomery County economy. If it had simply been the end of a ten-year lease, it would have remained open until April 2024. Instead, the contents of the restaurant are being stuffed into cardboard boxes inside the dining room.

MOMO CHICKEN AND JAZZ SIGN INSTALLED IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

The rapidly name-changing Korean fried chicken restaurant opening soon at 4862 Cordell Avenue, MOMO Chicken and Jazz, has installed its permanent sign out front. While it isn't going to be a spinoff of NYC's Turntable, it's interesting that the new name and theme now sound somewhat like another popular Korean chicken spot in New York, the now-closed MONO+MONO.

MOMO CHICKEN + JAZZ POSTS COMING SOON BANNER (PHOTOS)

Bethesda's answer to BonChon is still opening soon - but with a new name. A new Coming Soon banner on the front of the restaurant known up to now as Turntable offers a new moniker:

MoMo Chicken + Jazz.

The main dish - Korean fried chicken - remains the same. And that's what matters, right? MoMo is located at 4862 Cordell Avenue.
