Bethesda construction update: Urban Country (Photos)

Urban Country's new showroom at 7121 Arlington Road looks like it will, understandably, have a more upscale design than former tenant City Sports. They had previously announced a January 5 opening date, but it appears construction has taken a bit longer than expected. Amazon Books will take over the current Urban Country space at 7117 Arlington this summer.

Urban Country to move Friday at Bethesda Row

Urban Country Designs will make its short move one door up to 7121 Arlington Road at Bethesda Row tomorrow, Friday, January 5, 2017. The upscale furniture store is taking over the vacant City Sports space, and its current location will become Amazon Books in a few months.

They're having a clearance sale that includes floor samples, which had to be moved over to the former lululemon store at 4856 Bethesda Avenue during the big move. Furniture prices are up to 75% off, so head over there (next to the Apple Store) to browse until Friday.

Amazon Books added to Bethesda Row directory; Urban Country sale (Photos)

Future tenant Amazon Books has been added to the onsite directory at Bethesda Row. Don't go looking for Jeff Bezos just yet, as Urban Country is still in the bookstore's future space at the corner of Arlington Road and Bethesda Avenue. What you will find there now are savings of up to 70% off, as Urban Country tries to liquidate some inventory ahead of the big move. They will be moving one door over on Arlington Road, into the former City Sports space.

Fish Taco to open at Bethesda Row, Urban Country moving one door down

Fish Taco is coming to Bethesda Row. According to property owner Federal Realty, the popular restaurant will move into the vacant Cosi and Secolari spaces on Woodmont Avenue. That will give the tacqueria 3186 SF of room in total.

Meanwhile, existing Bethesda Row tenant Urban Country designs will give up their prime corner location at Bethesda Avenue and Arlington Road, and move next door to the former City Sports space. The new Urban Country will be slightly larger at 7498 SF, and include a showroom, two design centers and six offices.

Urban Country to fill vacant City Sports space at Bethesda Row

The large retail space formerly occupied by City Sports at Bethesda Row has sat vacant for over 19 months on Arlington Road, with no takers. Now the tenant next door, popular high-end furniture and decor retailer Urban Country, is simply going to expand into the space. The new space is slightly larger than the dimensions of their current showroom, so they will be able to hold double the amount of displayed merchandise.

THE FRONT ROW AT BETHESDA ROW COUNTDOWN:

T-MINUS 72 HOURS

Just 3 days until the DC area's biggest fashion event of the year - The Front Row at Bethesda Row.

While Thursday will be the official start, with events at boutiques around the Row, Friday is the big night attendees look forward to most.  That's when the fashion show happens on the runway on Bethesda Lane at 7:30 PM.  And before that, this year's VIP guest, Andy Cohen (Bravo, Watch What Happens Live, etc., etc.) will sign copies of his new book, Most Talkative, on the patio at Redwood from 5-6 PM.

But speaking of Redwood, that brings me to the best part of this year's Front Row event:  Redwood's outdoor Urban Country Runway Lounge.

The staff will be serving fashion-inspired drinks (and I'm assuming drinks for men, as well!) even after the fashion show ends.

That's right - Redwood is hosting the first-ever Front Row at Bethesda Row After-Party!  Which means the DJ will keep spinning, and Nate Mann and crew will keep serving up adult refreshments, Redwood-style.

For those who can't afford to miss a minute of the action, reserve a table for dinner Friday evening at Redwood for a front row seat at The Front Row at Bethesda Row!

Redwood, 7121 Bethesda Lane. 301-656-5515.
