Montgomery County police arrest suspect in Montgomery Mall armed robbery

Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in the April 25, 2026 armed robbery at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Kilbert Rosales, 34, of no fixed address, was identified by one of the two victims. Officers located Rosales near the Transit Center on the mall property. He initially was cooperative, but after being handcuffed, he allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted police. Before being placed in the rear of a police cruiser, police say Rosales began to slam his head into the rear window of the vehicle, lacerating his face. 

Rosales has been charged with armed robbery, theft ($100 to under $1,500), disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property, assault, making a false statement to a police officer, and related charges. He is being held without bond at the County jail. Police recovered the box cutter he allegedly used to threaten the two victims in the parking garage outside of Nordstrom on his person.

Montgomery County police arrest 3 in Chevy Chase "street takeover" riot

Montgomery County police have arrested three suspects in relation to the infamous February 22, 2026 "street takeover" riot at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and East-West Highway in Chevy Chase. The uncivil disturbance, taking place within view of the elite Columbia Country Club, included the malicious destruction of two County police cruisers. Police today revealed that one of the suspects dropped his pants to expose himself to a County police officer.

Ayden Joseph Cline, 18, of Cumberland, Pennsylvania has been charged as an adult with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, failure to obey lawful orders, and obstruction and hindering. Novorriya Gregory Smith Jr., 20, of Lusby has been charged with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, failure to obey lawful orders, obstruction and hindering, and indecent exposure. A juvenile, 17, of Laurel has been charged with disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, failure to obey lawful orders, and hindering.

Smith, Jr. and Cline are being held without bond at the County jail. The juvenile has been released into the custody of "a parent or guardian."

Student arrested for carrying gun to school in Bethesda

Montgomery County police arrested a student at Northwood High School in Bethesda yesterday morning, after he was found to allegedly be in possession of a firearm at the school. Isaiah Gaunt, 17, of Silver Spring has been charged as an adult with possession of a firearm without a serial number, handgun on person, possession of a firearm by a minor, and loaded handgun on person. Police say he was carrying a loaded 3D printed privately manufactured firearm (PMF) in his waistband. 

Gaunt was arrested without incident, police say. The alleged firearm came to light during an altercation between Gaunt and another student earlier Friday morning. Police officers were then dispatched to the school, located at 11211 Old Georgetown Road, at 8:23 AM.

Police arrest suspects in Bethesda pizzeria robbery spree

Montgomery County police have arrested two men in connection with a recent string of pizzeria robberies in Bethesda and Glenmont. Terrance Barfield, 22, and Jaylen Cunningham, 18, both of Washington, D.C., were arrested in a traffic stop in Chevy Chase shortly after they allegedly robbed Manny and Olga's at 8118 Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda on October 8, 2025. Detectives say they have determined Barfield and Cunningham were also the robbers of Domino's Pizza at 4817 St. Elmo Avenue on September 23, of Pizza Hut at 12335 Georgia Avenue in Glenmont on September 28, and of Papa John's at 7200 47th Street in Bethesda on October 1.

Barfield and Cunningham were transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where they were charged with armed robbery, motor vehicle theft, and related offenses. Both are being held without bond. Their mug shots have not been released to the public.

Suspects arrested in three robberies at Geste Beer & Wine in Bethesda

Montgomery County police have confirmed rumors that they had arrested two suspects in the repeated robberies of Geste Beer & Wine at 4801 Edgemoor Lane in downtown Bethesda last week. Detectives say they have determined that the two unnamed juveniles, age 14 and 15, were the robbers who held up the store on July 8, 9, and 10, 2025. They employed - or implied - possession of a firearm in the first two robberies, and reportedly escaped each time via the adjacent Bethesda Metro station's Red Line subway.

The suspects may have returned repeatedly because they not only faced no resistance or rapid police response, but also because the store only keeps a small amount of cash on hand each day. After the store was hit two days in a row, police were ready on Day 3. Officers with the 2nd District Central Business District Team were patrolling the area outside the store at 2:35 PM on July 10, when they noticed two juveniles who matched the descriptions of the robbers entering Geste Beer & Wine.

When the juveniles once again declared a robbery at the checkout counter, police ran into the store and arrested them. Both juveniles have been charged with one count of robbery, and two counts of armed robbery. They are being held at an unidentified "youth facility."

Another assault at 7-Eleven in White Flint

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an assault at the 7-Eleven store at 11530-G Rockville Pike on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The alleged assailant entered the store shortly before 2:00 PM that afternoon, and was confronted by employees, who accused him of shoplifting. In response, he threw unspecified items at the employees, kicked and cracked a glass panel in the store's front door, and fled. An officer responding to the assault call forwarded a photo of the suspect to other officers in the White Flint area.

The suspect was seen walking near the 7-Eleven by police around 3:01 PM. Officers followed the suspect to the White Flint Metro station. When they informed the suspect he was under arrest, he attempted to run away. Following a brief foot chase, the suspect was arrested. Asked to identify himself, he allegedly provided a false name. A search of his person led officers to conclude he was in possession of clothing stolen from H&M and GAP at the nearby Pike & Rose development. Security at both stores confirmed that Shall had been in their stores earlier that day.

Ceolus Shall, 32, of no fixed address, was charged with theft of less than $100, malicious destruction of property, obstructing and hindering an investigation, and failure to truthfully identify. However, he was quickly released on a $100 unsecured personal bond. A woman was assaulted at the same 7-Eleven store 16 days earlier.

Juveniles arrested after 2 robberies minutes apart in downtown Bethesda

Montgomery County police responded to two robbery reports seven minutes apart in downtown Bethesda Saturday, March 8, 2025. The first robbery was reported at a tobacco shop in the 7800 block of Old Georgetown Road at 5:07 PM Saturday. After leaving the store, the juvenile suspects apparently rounded the corner onto the 4900 block of St. Elmo Avenue. According to @DCNewsLive on X, one of the juveniles allegedly then stole a chain from a person on that block. Police received a call about that at 5:14 PM, and were able to arrest several juveniles attempting to flee at the Bethesda Metro station.

Police arrest suspect in downtown Bethesda assault

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault on Fairmont Avenue in the early morning hours of January 27, 2025. The assault was reported at 12:33 AM, near the 7-Eleven convenience store. Witnesses in the area did not see the assault or suspect prior to the police response, but could hear a man shouting loudly from at least a couple of blocks away. Multiple police cruisers arrived, and several officers took an adult male into custody.

Burglary/auto theft spree in Massachusetts Avenue corridor of Bethesda

Burglars and auto thieves started December off with a bang in the Massachusetts Avenue corridor of Bethesda. Four homes were burglarized, three others were the target of attempted burglaries, and at least four vehicles were stolen in that area between December 1 and December 4, 2024. Homes were burglarized in the 5700 block of Harwick Road, the 5300 block of Iroqouis Road, the 6000 block of Ramsgate Road, and the 5900 block of Massachusetts Avenue. Burglars attempted to break into homes in the 6100 block of Cromwell Drive, the 5900 block of Welborn Drive, and the 6300 block of Kenhowe Drive. Cars were stolen from the 5700 block of Harwick Road, the 5700 block of Ridgefield Road, the 6000 block of Ramsgate Road, and the 5900 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

One arrest was made in the last stolen car incident. An 18-year-old Bethesda man has been charged with felony 1st-degree burglary, felony theft, felony unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and rogue and vagabond. He has posted a $1500 bond, and has been released to await trial. Montgomery County police report that they have recovered all four stolen vehicles. Suspects in the other cases remain at large.

Police arrest alleged burglar of 3 Bethesda businesses

Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in the November 25, 2024 burglary of three businesses in downtown Bethesda. Jakeem Pope, 24, of Washington, D.C. allegedly began the burglary spree around 9:47 PM. The businesses impacted were Ege Market, Olazzo, and The ONE Street Company; property was taken from Ege Market and The ONE Street Company, and evidence of forced entry was found at both of those establishments.

Pope has been charged with two counts of felony 2nd-degree burglary, one count of attempted 4th-degree burglary, and failure to identify himself. According to Maryland court records, he is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for December 20 in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.  

Police arrest 3 in White Flint robbery, assault

Montgomery County police have arrested three suspects in the November 16, 2024 strong-arm robbery in White Flint. The robbery took place at 7:52 PM that evening. According to police, the three suspects allegedly assaulted the two adult male victims in the 11600 block of Rockville Pike (MD 355), and took unspecified property from them. Tyshon Evans, 18, of Gaithersburg, Kiarra Twyman, 18, of Gaithersburg, and an unnamed juvenile male, 16, of Rockville were arrested in connection with the robbery.

Evans has been charged with felony robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of 2nd-degree assault. He posted $5000 bond, and has been released. Twyman does not appear in Maryland court records, despite being an adult, but no charging information regarding the 16-year-old juvenile will be made public, either.

Bethesda juveniles arrested, immediately released for convenience store robbery

Three Bethesda juveniles were arrested, but immediately released "to their primary caregivers," in relation to the October 22, 2024 strong-arm robbery of a downtown Bethesda convenience store. Montgomery County police allege that the three suspects entered the Tobacco & More Mart at 7809 Old Georgetown Road at 9:34 AM. They attempted to leave the store with shoplifted items, and were confronted by an employee. One of the three suspects, age 16, struck the employee in the head, and the alleged thieves fled on foot.

Officers were able to locate and identify the three suspects based upon their descriptions. They were arrested and charged with robbery, police say, but the press release did not indicate if the 16-year-old was also charged with assault. 

Rash of commercial burglaries in Friendship Heights

A series of commercial burglaries unfolded over two nights in the Friendship Heights area of Chevy Chase earlier this month, Montgomery County police report. One suspect was arrested, but the others remain at large. In the early morning hours of September 10, 2024, burglars broke into Saks Fifth Avenue and T-Mobile, and attempted to break into GAP. Early the next morning, one or more burglars broke into Bloomingdales. 

It must be noted that the burglaries occurred around the same time that looting took place at multiple businesses in Northwest Washington, D.C., following a Metropolitan Police Department officer-involved shooting in that jurisdiction. But none of the media accounts I have seen so far included the Friendship Heights incidents on our side of the border as being related.

Merchandise was taken from all three of the burglarized businesses. Officers responding to the scene found evidence of forced entry at all three. Mandel Greene, 27, of Washington, D.C. was arrested in connection with the Saks Fifth Avenue burglary. He has been charged with felony 2nd-degree burglary, and felony theft. Greene posted bond and was released the next day, according to Maryland court records. 

A preliminary hearing in the Saks case has been scheduled for October 4 in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville. Suspects in the T-Mobile burglary are described only as two Black males, and the unsuccessful GAP burglars are described simply as one Black male, and one of unknown description. Man attacks front of Z-Burger in Bethesda (Photos)

A man attacked the front of Z-Burger at 4827 Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda about an hour before the restaurant opened yesterday morning. Witnesses said the man smashed the front windows using what appeared to be one of the new, rat-proof public trash cans. The crashing of the metal trash can drew a lot of attention from those in the vicinity at the time. Montgomery County police arrived at the scene, and very shortly had a suspect in custody. 

The suspect was handcuffed and seated in the adjacent Veterans Park, as officers searched his belongings. A motive for the vandalism is unknown at this time. An arrest in the case does not appear in Montgomery County arrest records as of this writing. Despite the damage, Z-Burger forged ahead Monday. The broken glass was swept up, and the burger restaurant opened for lunch.

Chevy Chase Lake traffic incident results in gun charges

Investigation of a traffic incident by Montgomery County police in the Chevy Chase Lake area on July 8, 2024 led to several gun charges. The vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Chevy Chase Lake Drive at 4:24 PM that afternoon. Discovery of a loaded handgun led to the arrest of Tanika Beaner, 30, of Capitol Heights. 

Beaner has been charged with possession of a firearm without a serial number, handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, loaded handgun in vehicle, and loaded handgun on person, all misdemeanors. Bail status for the defendant is still pending a second review as of this morning, according to court records. A trial has been scheduled for August in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.

Radnor Elementary School in Bethesda burglarized again

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at the Radnor Elementary School building at 7000 Radnor Road in Bethesda on June 29, 2024. At least two suspects entered the school at 3:20 PM that afternoon. Officers responding to the scene found no evidence of forced entry, and could not identify anything as having been stolen from the building.

However, police were successful in catching the alleged burglars. Two juveniles were arrested: A 17-year-old male from Bethesda, and a 17-year-old female of Cabin John. The case will be handled through the juvenile justice system.

Suspect arrested in Geste Beer & Wine armed robberies in Bethesda

Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in four downtown Bethesda armed robberies, including the two robberies of Geste Beer & Wine at 4801 Edgemoor Lane last week. Nytrell Tyshawn Parrish, 16, of no fixed address, was arrested Saturday. Police allege he was the gunman who robbed the store on May 13 and 14, 2024, and also robbed Tobacco Hub at 7814 Old Georgetown Road twice on May 12. Parrish has been charged with four counts of armed robbery, four counts of firearm used in a violent crime, and "other related charges." 

Parrish's charges do not appear in Maryland court records, and no mugshot has been released. The suspect is a minor, but his identity has been made public by police, and he has been charged as an adult. Parrish is being held without bond.

Assault at 7-Eleven in Bethesda

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an assault at the 7-Eleven at 7820 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda Tuesday night, May 7, 2024. Police were called to the store at 10:08 PM Tuesday. Two readers report a large police response, with one counting seven police cruisers at the scene. A Black man in his 30s was seen handcuffed, surrounded by officers, in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven around 10:25 PM. Police were still on the scene at 10:45 PM, but no further information about the incident has been released as of this writing.

Attempted burglary at Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase leads to arrest

Montgomery County police responded to a burglar alarm at Saks Fifth Avenue at 5555 Wisconsin Avenue in the Friendship Heights area of Chevy Chase in the early morning hours of April 17, 2024. The responding officer caught a suspect allegedly attempting to force his way into the building. 

Samuel Bucey, 39, of Washington, D.C. was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with 2nd-degree attempted burglary, and malicious destruction of property valued at over $1000. Bucey was initially held without bond, but Judge Eugene Wolfe set bond at $2500 on April 18. Bucey posted bond on April 30, and was released yesterday. A trial is scheduled for June 3 in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.

Suspect arrested in North Bethesda Market apartment tower burglary

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at the North Bethesda Market apartment tower at 11418 Rockville Pike, in the early morning hours of March 28, 2024. The responding officer found no evidence of forced entry, but property was allegedly stolen from the building. Malik Gillispie, 28, of no fixed address, was observed and arrested at the scene. He has been charged with 2nd-degree burglary, failure to identify himself, and using a false identity to avoid prosecution.
