Once the location of North China Restaurant, it was the first place I ever ate Szechuan Chinese food back in 1973.
Absolute garbage. Embarrassing. Crappy space with no curb appeal, no pedestrian traffic and no parking next to a modem day head shop. Boy o boy does that look like Wheaton. So, a place like this opens and an incredible restaurant like Anthony's closes. Corporate mismanagement in that case, I get it. But point made.
Cinco, what a great memory. Yes, that was legit.
Great place, was saddened when the family retired.
Serious question, but do they accept cash walk-ins or must you be part of the QR code only world?
Location is terrible. The head shop next door could work in their favor though.
Parking isn't bad -- you can park on the other side (by Bethesda Elementary, on Wilson) and a number of those spots are unmetered. I like picking up take-out from any places on this "block" since it's always easy to find a spot to park.
I used a credit card today. Confusingly, they had the Banana Leaves sidewalk sign out
Yes they take cash, are very friendly & the Jumbo Hunan Shrimp was delicious... But, there was a language barrier in ordering at the counter with the old guy at the register (like it was his first time) I wanted 2 entrees and they gave me shrimp fried rice as the side bed instead of an order of shrimp fried rice which explained the cheaper total price which I honestly did question. As it turned out I am glad of the miscommunication faux pas because it was not how I like my fried rice (too dark & oily) but would definitely go again & try some more shrimp based large dinners. -- Thanks for the original posting on this Robert, otherwise I probably would have ignored this hole in the wall.
