The One Cake bakery opening in Bethesda

The One Cake bakery is coming soon to the Shoppes of Bethesda. It will be located at 4914 Hampden Lane, where the former Tako Grill space is now being subdivided into two, with the other half soon to occupied by Sushi Masato. This appears to be a local small business as opposed to a chain.

Rosetta Bakery opens in Bethesda (Photos)

Rosetta is now open at 4901-A Fairmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The Italian bakery "brings the authentic flavors of Milan to Bethesda with fresh pastries, signature focaccia, rich espresso, and all the sweet moments Rosetta is known for," the Miami-based chain said in a statement announcing the opening. Rosetta is named for the bread used in its signature sandwich menu item. See a preview of the menu boards below. The Bethesda location has established a partnership with the Best Buddies organization.

Ooh La La Bakery opens in Bethesda

Ooh La La Bakery opened its second Montgomery County location this morning in Bethesda. The authentic French bakery is located at 8231 Woodmont Avenue, across Battery Lane from Harris Teeter. A public parking garage can be found across Woodmont from the bakery. Ooh La La has an existing location in Wheaton.

Work on the interior of Rosetta Italian Bakery at 4901-A Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda is nearing completion. See my latest sneak peek below. Outside, painters have been updating the exterior paint to a bright white over the last two days. I've lost count of how many times the color of the building has changed since BlackFinn closed in 2014. The opening date for the bakery is still to-be-announced.

Signage installed at Rosetta Italian Bakery in Bethesda

The sign is up at Rosetta Italian Bakery at 4901-A Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle neighborhood. Usually I can report that the sign is connected and lit after dark, but in this case, the installers had it lit up already during daylight hours Wednesday. Rosetta, or michetta, is an Italian white bread roll often used for sandwiches. The bakery chain was founded in 2015 with the vision of becoming "an official ambassador of the Italian art of baking." Customers in the bakery's communal dining area will be able to watch bakers at work in the kitchen, with authentic ingredients imported fresh from Italy, through a large observation window. The Best Buddies logo on the sign reflects the Florida chain's commitment to hiring staff through that organization.

Chip City closes in Bethesda (Photos)

Chip City has closed at 4939 Elm Street at the Shoppes of Bethesda. It is the first cookie to crumble in the cookie wars among neighbor Levain Bakery and deliveries from Crumbl Cookies. Chip City lasted just over two years, and had expanded to offer late night hours this past summer. A message posted in the window yesterday evening directed customers to their Tysons location.

Construction underway at Rosetta Bakery in Bethesda

Work is underway on the interior fit-out for Rosetta Bakery at 4901-A Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda. The Miami-based chain seeks to be "an official ambassador of the Italian art of baking." A central feature of the completed interior will be a glass wall that will provide a clear view of the bakers at work in the kitchen. Try their signature Rosetta bread sandwiches, their famous croissant, and authentic bombolones.

Paris Baguette Bakery Cafe opens in Bethesda (Photos)

Paris Baguette Bakery Cafe is now open at 4925 Fairmont Avenue, in the ground floor of the Sophia Bethesda apartment tower. Operating hours will be 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days a week. Here is a photo tour of the bakery, showing many of the menu items you can choose from. Paris Baguette is a South Korean-based French bakery chain.

Paris Baguette sets opening date in Bethesda

Paris Baguette Bakery Cafe has set an opening date for its location at 4925 Fairmont Avenue in the Sophia Bethesda apartment tower. It will open next Friday, August 8, 2025. Operating hours will be 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days a week. 

"Paris Baguette is your neighborhood bakery cafe bringing expertly crafted baked and brewed goods to the Bethesda community," the chain said in a statement. "Our bakers, cakers, and baristas are serving up handcrafted cakes, freshly baked pastries and breads, delicious Lavazza coffee, and more. Stop by and cozy up with a warm pastry or cool down with a gourmet iced latte. We look forward to bringing joy to your day!" 

Chip City open later on Friday, Saturday nights in Bethesda

Chip City at 4939 Elm Street in Bethesda has extended its hours on Friday and Saturday nights. "Open late tonight for your late night cravings," a sign in the window announces. On those evenings, the cookie shop will now be open until 10:00 PM. In downtown Bethesda, where the streets are dead by 9:00 PM since the Montgomery County Council tanked the "nighttime economy," that qualifies as "late." Chip City is located at The Shoppes of Bethesda.

Update on Paris Baguette, opening soon in Bethesda (Photos)

Here is a look at the progress on the interior fit-out of Paris Baguette Bakery Cafe, opening soon at 4925 Fairmont Avenue, in the ground floor of the Sophia Bethesda apartment tower. The French-Korean bakery looks pretty close to opening inside. Display counters and cases have been installed, and as you can see, they've already been plugged in and are lit up. Blue tile walls, and patterned tile floors are also visible, along with one of the chain's taglines, "Freshly made to make your day." Paris Baguette has just added a number of menu items for summer, including a BBQ Chicken menu, strawberry and pistachio baked goods, and pistachio-flavored coffees.

Rosetta Italian Bakery installs "baking soon" signage in Bethesda

Rosetta Italian Bakery has made it official: its first Washington, D.C.-area location will be here at 4901-A Fairmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Of course, if you read this blog, you already knew this three days ago. In place of the standard "coming soon" message, signage installed in their future storefront's window yesterday promises the store will be "baking soon." Construction on the interior fit-out is expected to begin this spring.
