Trader Joe's adds wayfinding signage for parking in Bethesda

Combining the words "Trader Joe's" and "parking" could require a trigger warning for some Bethesda and Chevy Chase grocery shoppers. But here we're talking about the other Trader Joe's in downtown Bethesda, at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue. They've just installed a large, red sign to indicate where customers can park underground in the 8001 Woodmont apartment tower the store is located in. It has the Trader Joe's logo, and an old-time 1920s hand pointing to the garage entryway. Right this way, old sport!

Trader Joe's construction begins in Friendship Heights

Construction is now underway on the new Trader Joe's grocery store at 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW in Friendship Heights. The store is in the Chevy Chase Pavilion mall. It will be the new anchor tenant for the property, replacing H&M. Located in Washington, D.C., it will be allowed to sell beer and wine, unlike grocery chains that operate under Montgomery County's antiquated liquor laws.

Bethesda Trader Joe's opening delayed this morning at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue

Trader Joe's wasn't able to open on time this morning at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Their refrigeration system is down, according to a sign posted in the window. "We will open as soon as possible! Thank you for your patience!" it says.

Trader Joe's increases security measures at new Bethesda store

When Trader Joe's closed last night at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, something new happened. Window screens lowered down over the store's windows. They don't quite block every view into the grocery store, and don't appear to have any other significant burglary defense function. Of the commercial burglaries reported in the Woodmont Triangle this year, most have been at beer and wine stores.

Trader Joe's opened this morning at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue in the 8001 Woodmont apartment building, the culmination of Joe's odyssey to bring you this store that began in 2014(!) with my scoop that Trader Joe's would be the anchor tenant for the development. Parking is available in a garage beneath the apartment tower, which you access from the Woodmont Avenue side of the property. Elevators in the garage bring you up to the store. Here is a store tour, with some of the sights and Trader Joe's products seen inside downtown Bethesda's newest Trader Joe's this rainy day:

More finishing touches are popping up as the team at Trader Joe's makes the final arrangements for the March 17 opening of the new grocery store at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. One addition is a set of Bethesda-themed artworks installed high on the walls, where they can be seen from around the store. 

Scenes depicted include the crossroads of Old Georgetown Road, Wisconsin Avenue and East-West Highway, in which the new Marriott headquarters is replaced with a giant salt shaker; Glen Echo Park; the historic Bethesda Theatre; the Bethesda Metro Center; Bethesda Naval Hospital; the Clara Barton House; and - what else? - Bethesda Row. Trader Joe's private label products are interspersed with the otherwise photorealistic images.

New Bethesda Trader Joe's to open March 17

Trader Joe's has informed me that their new Bethesda store at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue will open on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Located in the 8001 Woodmont apartment building, this will be the second Trader Joe's grocery store in downtown Bethesda. 

There are still lots of empty shelves and cases to be filled around the store, as you can see in these photos. Some interior signage has finally been installed in recent days, as final preparations are made for the St. Patrick's Day opening.
