Port Tobacco man killed in Bethesda construction site incident

A worker dismantling a pressurized tank at a Bethesda construction site was killed Friday afternoon, when he was struck by a pipe attached to the tank. Bryan Frederick McGinn, 43, of Port Tobacco, Maryland, died at an unidentified hospital after being transported from the construction site at 8751 Rockville Pike. That address matches the mailing address for a project in front of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, but police did not identify the specific project site.

Detectives have made the initial conclusion that the incident was an accident. The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Department was notified, and is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

BAINBRIDGE BETHESDA CONSTRUCTION CREWS WORK THROUGH DARKNESS AND FREEZING TEMPERATURES (PHOTOS)

By the time the construction workers climbed out of the chasm between Fairmont and St. Elmo Avenues last night, it was dark and freezing cold.  Powerful lights kept the site lit so work could continue.  Finally, the street level door burst open as workers ascended the final stairs.  Progress has been made, but the foundations of the final structure are literally still coming together following an excavation mishap that damaged a building on Fairmont Avenue.
